The Mine Safety Management & Governance Systems Training Course equips mine executives, HSE leaders, and mining authority officials with the management knowledge needed to design, oversee, and assure safety systems across surface and underground operations. Its subject is management systems and accountability, not field training: it does not teach operating tasks, equipment use, or emergency skills, and it builds no operator competence. The course starts from a simple question for any mining organization: who is accountable for preventing fatal and catastrophic events, and how do they know that controls are working? Participants examine roles from the board to the shift supervisor, mine safety governance structures, and risk management approaches for principal hazards such as ground failure, mobile equipment, fire, and inrush, treated throughout as management questions. Participants also consider how production targets, reporting lines, and incentive schemes can quietly weaken these decisions. Participants work with ISO 45001, the ICMM critical control management approach, and the ILO Safety and Health in Mines Convention as reference points. They also study contractor safety assurance, safety leadership and culture, leading and lagging indicators, audits, incident investigation, emergency preparedness governance, and the relationship between operators and mine inspectorates across the Gulf and Africa. The course is delivered through major mining incident case studies, governance mapping exercises, bowtie analysis sessions, audit simulations, and a final safety governance workshop. Participants leave with an accountability matrix, a principal hazard register, a critical control verification plan, a board safety reporting template, and a safety governance improvement plan they can adapt to their own organization.
