Course Overview

This advanced training course provides a practical framework for applying Crew Resource Management (CRM) principles to improve safety, communication, coordination, situational awareness, and decision-making within aviation operations. It focuses on the effective use of human, technical, and organisational resources to reduce operational errors and strengthen team performance. The programme examines the human factors that influence aviation safety, including communication barriers, workload, fatigue, stress, situational awareness, leadership, teamwork, conflict, and decision-making. Participants explore how these factors affect crew coordination and operational performance in normal, abnormal, and high-pressure situations. Particular emphasis is placed on practical CRM application through operational scenarios, team exercises, communication drills, decision-making activities, and incident-based case studies. The course supports the development of a strong safety culture in which crew members communicate effectively, challenge unsafe conditions appropriately, manage workload, and maintain shared situational awareness.

Learning Objectives

  • Analyse the fundamental principles and operational importance of Crew Resource Management.
  • Assess human factors that influence crew performance and aviation safety.
  • Apply structured communication techniques during routine and non-routine operations.
  • Strengthen teamwork, coordination, and mutual support within operational crews.
  • Improve situational awareness and recognition of developing operational threats.
  • Apply effective workload and task management techniques.
  • Evaluate the effects of stress, fatigue, distraction, and pressure on performance.
  • Apply structured decision-making techniques in normal and abnormal situations.
  • Strengthen leadership, followership, and authority-sharing practices.
