The Pipeline Pigging Operations and Safety training course provides a practical, field-focused framework for planning, executing, and controlling pigging activities on oil and gas pipelines. The course explains why pipelines are pigged, how pigs are selected and run, and how launching, receiving, tracking, and recovery operations are carried out safely and consistently, from commissioning through routine operation. Participants will examine the full range of pigging purposes, including cleaning, dewaxing, liquid removal, batching, product separation, gauging, dewatering, and preparation for inspection. They will compare foam, mandrel, solid-cast, sphere, and gauging pigs, review intelligent in-line inspection tools at concept level, and assess pipeline piggability, including bends, valves, tees, diameter changes, and the design features of launchers and receivers. The program places strong emphasis on operational safety, covering pressure isolation and venting, quick-opening closures, the handling of debris, liquids, pyrophoric scale, and hydrocarbon releases, and the causes, prevention, and recovery of stuck pigs. Participants will also learn how cleaning and gauge runs prepare a line for in-line inspection and how inspection results are handed over to integrity management teams, without covering integrity assessment itself. Through procedure reviews, pigging program planning exercises, incident case studies, and tabletop simulations of launching and receiving operations, participants will develop the ability to run pigging safely, protect throughput, and capture lessons learned. The course is particularly relevant to production, pipeline transportation, gas processing, terminal, and refining organizations operating pigged pipeline networks.
