The Mining Local Content & Supplier Development Training Course equips procurement, supply chain, and community managers, along with ministry officials, with the practical knowledge needed to turn local content commitments into real business for national and host-community suppliers. Mines in the Gulf and Africa are often remote and buy heavily from global specializt vendors, so building local supply depends on what a mine actually purchases, when it purchases it, and which suppliers can realistically meet its safety and reliability demands. The course focuses on application within mining rather than local content in general. Participants work through the mine's own spend profile across exploration, construction, operations, and closure, including contract mining, haulage, drilling services, camp and catering, maintenance, consumables, and reagents. They examine how to define local at national, regional, and host-community levels, and how to reconcile policy objectives with commercial and safety requirements. Because a failed local supplier can stop a remote mine, risk is treated as seriously as opportunity throughout the program. The program then covers the commercial and development tools: spend analysis, category strategies, unbundling of contract packages, prime contractor obligations, payment terms, access to finance, and structured supplier development from assessment to mentoring. Participants also consider reference points such as the Mining Local Procurement Reporting Mechanism and GRI 204, and they learn how to measure outcomes honestly and avoid front companies. The course is delivered through mining case studies, spend analysis exercises, tender drafting, supplier assessment practice, and a final local content workshop. Participants leave with a mine spend opportunity map, a category strategy template, a supplier assessment tool, model tender provisions, and a local content plan they can adapt to their own operation or institution.
