Course Overview

The Logistics Performance Management & KPIs Training Course equips logistics and supply chain professionals with the frameworks, measures, and practical tools needed to measure, analyze, and continuously improve logistics performance. In government entities, ministries, healthcare systems, banks, manufacturing, retail, and distribution companies, and large corporations, logistics activities consume significant resources and directly affect service reliability, cost, and stakeholder satisfaction. Yet many organizations cannot answer basic questions with confidence: how reliably are we delivering, what does logistics really cost, which providers are performing, and where should we focus improvement efforts? Common challenges include measuring what is easy rather than what matters, tracking too many indicators without clear ownership, using different definitions for the same measure across sites and teams, relying on data that is incomplete or late, and producing reports that describe results but do not drive action. Logistics service providers may be managed without clear scorecards, costs may be scattered across budgets, and performance reviews may focus on explaining past results rather than solving problems. As a result, improvement opportunities remain hidden and accountability is weak. This course provides a structured, practical approach to logistics performance management. Participants learn how to link logistics performance to organizational strategy and service requirements, build a balanced logistics KPI framework, and apply recognized reference models such as the SCOR model performance attributes, including reliability, responsiveness, agility, cost, and asset efficiency. The program covers the design and definition of KPIs across order fulfillment, transportation, warehousing, inventory, customer service, logistics cost, service provider performance, and sustainability, including measures such as perfect order, on-time in-full delivery, order cycle time, dock-to-stock time, picking accuracy, inventory turnover, cost to serve, and logistics cost per unit. Participants also learn target setting and benchmarking, data collection and data quality, dashboard and scorecard design, service provider scorecards and service level agreements, structured performance reviews, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methods that turn measurement into results. The course is delivered through an interactive, application-focused approach with KPI design exercises, data analysis, dashboard building, and case studies. Participants leave with a logistics KPI framework, KPI definition sheets, a service provider scorecard, a logistics performance dashboard design, a performance review meeting structure, and an improvement plan for logistics performance management in their organization.

Learning Objectives

  • Analyze the role of performance management in improving logistics service, cost, and accountability on Day 1.
  • Evaluate the participant's current logistics performance measurement practices and identify priority gaps.
  • Develop a balanced logistics KPI framework linked to organizational strategy, service requirements, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Apply the SCOR model performance attributes, including reliability, responsiveness, agility, cost, and asset efficiency, to structure logistics measures.
  • Design clear KPI definitions that specify purpose, formula, data source, frequency, owner, baseline, and target.
  • Apply key performance indicators for order fulfillment, transportation, warehousing, inventory, and customer service.
  • Analyze logistics costs, including cost to serve and logistics cost per unit, to identify cost drivers and savings opportunities.
  • Develop targets using baselines, trends, internal comparisons, and external benchmarking.
  • Implement data collection and validation practices that improve the accuracy and timeliness of logistics performance data.
  • Design logistics performance dashboards and service provider scorecards that highlight exceptions and support decisions.
  • Apply structured performance reviews, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methods to close performance gaps.
  • Design a logistics performance management improvement plan for the participant's organization by the end of Day 5.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for logistics managers, supply chain managers, distribution and transport managers, warehouse and inventory managers, and logistics performance and planning professionals responsible for measuring and improving logistics operations. It is also relevant for supply chain analysts, business intelligence and reporting specialists, and continuous improvement professionals who support logistics performance reporting and improvement initiatives. It is particularly valuable for professionals in ministries and government entities managing supply, storage, and distribution to public service sites; in healthcare systems monitoring the availability and delivery of medical supplies; in banks and financial institutions overseeing logistics providers and branch distribution; and in manufacturing, retail, e-commerce, wholesale, and service organizations managing complex logistics operations and multiple service providers. Procurement and contract managers responsible for logistics service agreements, finance professionals analyzing logistics costs, and senior managers who review supply chain performance will also benefit from the course.

Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Explain how effective performance management improves logistics results and accountability.
  • Review an existing set of logistics KPIs and remove, revise, or add measures to improve focus.
  • Build a balanced KPI framework covering service, cost, efficiency, and asset use.
  • Write complete KPI definitions that ensure consistent measurement across sites and teams.
  • Calculate and interpret key logistics indicators such as perfect order, on-time in-full delivery, order cycle time, inventory turnover, and cost per unit.
  • Identify the main drivers of logistics cost and measure cost to serve for different segments.
  • Set realistic and challenging targets supported by baselines and benchmarks.
  • Improve the quality and timeliness of logistics performance data.
  • Design clear dashboards and scorecards tailored to operational teams and senior leadership.
  • Evaluate logistics service providers using balanced scorecards linked to service level agreements.
  • Lead performance review meetings that result in clear actions, owners, and deadlines.
  • Apply root cause analysis and continuous improvement methods to solve recurring logistics performance issues.
