Course Overview

The Exhibition & Trade Show Management Training Course equips exhibition organizers, event directors, and trade promotion officials with the commercial and operational knowledge needed to plan, sell, and deliver a successful trade show. Exhibitions are a distinct business within the events sector: they earn their revenue from selling space and services to exhibitors, succeed only when the right buyers attend, and must be built, opened, and dismantled within tight venue windows. Ministries, chambers of commerce, trade development agencies, and private organizers across the Gulf and Africa rely on them to connect industries, promote exports, and attract investment. Participants also learn how the economics change between a new launch and a mature, recurring show. The course follows the full exhibition cycle from concept to the next edition. Participants learn how to test a show concept against market need, sector structure, and competing events, and how to build a business case, choose a venue, and set the calendar. They design floor plans that balance halls, aisles, feature areas, and pavilions; build pricing structures for space and sponsorship; and manage the exhibitor sales pipeline from prospect list to contract and rebooking, including national and group pavilions. They also learn when to partner with an international organizer or trade association. Participants then address the other half of the show: the audience. The program covers visitor segmentation and acquisition, registration and badging, hosted buyer programs, matchmaking and meeting systems, conference and content programs that bring decision makers to the floor, and exhibitor services that help stands produce results. Operational sessions cover the exhibitor manual, stand design rules, contractor appointment, freight and temporary import arrangements including the ATA Carnet, move-in and move-out scheduling, fire and crowd safety, security, and on-site command. The course is delivered through exhibition case studies, floor plan exercises, pricing and sales simulations, build-up scheduling, and a final workshop. Participants leave with a show business case template, a floor plan and pricing structure, a visitor acquisition plan, an exhibitor manual outline, a move-in schedule, and a post-show review framework they can adapt to their own exhibitions.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the exhibition business model and how it differs from conferences and other events.
  • Assess a show concept against market need, sector structure, competition, and venue availability.
  • Prepare a business case with revenue lines, cost structure, and break-even logic.
  • Design floor plans that balance sales, visitor flow, feature areas, and safety requirements.
  • Build pricing structures for space, shell schemes, pavilions, sponsorship, and exhibitor services.
  • Manage the exhibitor sales pipeline from prospecting through contract, retention, and rebooking.
  • Develop visitor acquisition plans targeted at relevant buyers and decision makers in the chosen sector.
  • Design hosted buyer, matchmaking, and content programs that create business value.
  • Write exhibitor manuals, stand design rules, and contractor requirements that reduce on-site disputes and delays.
  • Plan freight, temporary import, move-in, move-out, and on-site command arrangements.
  • Evaluate show performance and turn the findings into a plan for the next edition that improves revenue and exhibitor experience.
  • Evaluate partnership options with international organizers, trade associations, and government sponsors.
  • Plan fire safety, crowd movement, security, and stand inspection across build-up, open days, and breakdown.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for exhibition directors, show managers, exhibition sales and sponsorship managers, visitor marketing managers, and operations managers working for exhibition organizers or planning to enter the sector, who need the sales and operational sides of a show in one view. It is equally relevant for officials in trade and industry ministries, export development agencies, investment promotion bodies, chambers of commerce, and sector authorities that own or sponsor trade shows or take national pavilions abroad, and must judge the organizers who run them. Professionals in convention and exhibition centers, event agencies, stand contractors, freight forwarders, and destination organizations, and trade associations running their own annual shows, will see how organizer decisions shape their own contracts and timelines. It is particularly valuable for conference and event teams moving into exhibitions for the first time, and for government bodies deciding whether to launch a national show or support an existing one.
