Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) is a structured methodology for designing new products, services, and processes that meet customer requirements, achieve high levels of quality, and deliver reliable performance from the outset. Unlike traditional improvement approaches that focus on correcting existing problems, DFSS emphasizes preventing defects during the design stage by integrating customer needs, risk analysis, statistical thinking, and quality engineering into development decisions. This course explores the core principles and practical tools of DFSS, including Voice of the Customer (VOC), Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Critical to Quality (CTQ) requirements, concept evaluation, design risk assessment, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), and statistical methods for evaluating design performance. Participants will examine structured DFSS frameworks, including DMADV (Define, Measure, Analyse, Design, Verify), to translate customer expectations into measurable specifications and robust design solutions. Through practical exercises and case-based learning, participants will develop the capability to define design requirements, evaluate alternatives, anticipate potential failures, and verify that new products and processes meet performance expectations. The course supports organizations seeking to reduce development risks, minimize costly redesign, accelerate product and process launches, and establish quality by design across the product lifecycle.
