Course Overview

The Business Relationship Management (BRMP) Training Course equips business relationship managers, IT and shared service leaders, account and partnership managers, and transformation professionals with the concepts and practical skills needed to build strategic, value-focused partnerships between service providers, such as IT, HR, finance, procurement, and shared services, and the business units they serve, while preparing for the Business Relationship Management Professional (BRMP) certification offered by the Business Relationship Management Institute. In government entities, ministries, banks, energy and utility companies, healthcare systems, and corporations, internal providers are often seen as order takers or cost centers, with demand arriving late, priorities conflicting, investments disconnected from outcomes, and value poorly understood. Business relationship management shifts this relationship toward trusted partnership, focused on shaping demand, optimizing investment, and realizing business value. The course covers the business relationship management discipline and role from foundations to practice. Participants learn the purpose of business relationship management, the concept of value and how business and provider value converge, relationship maturity and how relationships evolve from transactional to strategic, and the role, responsibilities, and competencies of business relationship managers. The program then addresses demand shaping, including discovering, stimulating, and prioritizing business demand, strategic partnering and joint planning, business capability and value roadmaps, portfolio management and investment prioritization, business transition management and organizational change, and value management, including defining, measuring, and realizing value. Participants also examine provider domain knowledge, influencing, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills, engagement models and relationship plans, measuring relationship health and value, building a business relationship management capability, and preparing for the BRMP examination through practice questions. The course is delivered through case studies, relationship and stakeholder mapping exercises, demand shaping and value roadmap workshops, role plays of business partner conversations, and practice questions. Participants leave with a stakeholder and relationship map template, a business relationship plan template, a demand shaping and value roadmap template, a value realization tracker, and a relationship health assessment tool. Certification requirements, exam content, and exam format are set by the Business Relationship Management Institute and should be confirmed through its official sources. BRMP is a trademark of its respective owner.
