The Water Stewardship and Wastewater Reuse Management Training Course is a management-level program that equips professionals to understand, govern, and reduce the water risks facing their organizations, and to plan and oversee the safe reuse of treated wastewater. In water-scarce regions such as the Gulf, water is both an operational dependency and a shared resource, and organizations are expected to account for how they withdraw, consume, discharge, and recycle it. The course focuses on decisions, governance, and accountability rather than plant operation.
The program begins with the principles of water stewardship and water-risk assessment. Participants examine physical, regulatory, and reputational water risks, catchment context, and stakeholder roles, drawing on frameworks such as the Alliance for Water Stewardship Standard and the CEO Water Mandate. They learn to build a site water balance, quantify losses, and apply the water footprint concept described in ISO 14046.
A central part of the course addresses treated wastewater reuse as a managed resource. Participants explore reuse in irrigation, district cooling, industrial process water, and aquifer recharge, and examine fit-for-purpose quality classes, the multi-barrier approach, sanitation safety planning, and the permitting, monitoring, and contractual arrangements that make reuse schemes reliable, with reference to the WHO Guidelines for the Safe Use of Wastewater, Excreta and Greywater and ISO 16075.
The course also covers water efficiency management and disclosure. Participants learn to structure a water efficiency management system along the lines of ISO 46001, set context-based goals and indicators, build a business case for efficiency and reuse investments, and report performance using GRI 303 Water and Effluents. National policy, including Saudi Arabia's National Water Strategy, is discussed within the governance context.
Through case studies, water balance exercises, risk workshops, and a site stewardship plan, participants build a methodology they can apply in their own organizations. The course complements technical treatment plant courses without repeating them, and suits industrial facilities, oil and gas companies, municipalities, utilities, giga-project developers, and sustainability teams.
