Course Overview

The Training of Trainers (TOT) Training Course is designed for professionals who are responsible for building capability across their organizations. In government entities, ministries, financial institutions, energy companies, and large corporations, internal trainers and subject matter experts carry much of the knowledge that keeps operations running. Their expertise is valuable only when they can transfer it effectively, consistently, and in a way that changes how people work. This course equips participants with the instructional design, facilitation, and evaluation skills needed to turn technical and professional knowledge into structured, engaging, and measurable learning experiences. Many organizations rely on experienced employees to deliver onboarding, compliance, technical, and leadership sessions, yet these individuals often receive little formal preparation in how adults learn. The result can be content-heavy presentations, low participant engagement, and limited transfer to the workplace. This Training of Trainers program addresses that gap by grounding participants in adult learning principles, needs analysis, learning design, delivery techniques, and assessment methods that reflect international training practice. The course follows a complete learning cycle. Participants learn how to identify genuine performance needs, write clear learning objectives, design sessions and materials, facilitate with confidence in face-to-face and virtual environments, manage group dynamics, and evaluate training impact using recognized evaluation frameworks. Throughout the five days, participants apply each concept to their own subject areas, so they leave with practical work products rather than theory alone. For organizations, the value of a strong internal training capability is significant. It supports knowledge retention when experienced staff move on, reduces reliance on external providers for routine programs, strengthens consistency in standards and procedures, and helps align learning initiatives with strategic priorities such as digital transformation, localization of talent, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. A well-prepared internal trainer becomes a multiplier of organizational performance. By the end of this TOT course, participants will be able to plan, design, deliver, and evaluate professional training sessions that are learner-centered, results-oriented, and aligned with organizational goals. The program is suitable for new trainers who need a solid foundation and for experienced trainers who want to refine their practice and adopt a more structured, evidence-informed approach.

Learning Objectives

  • Analyze core adult learning principles and apply them to the design of at least one training session relevant to the participant's own field by the end of Day 1.
  • Conduct a structured training needs analysis that distinguishes performance gaps that training can solve from those requiring other organizational interventions.
  • Develop clear, measurable learning objectives using action-oriented language aligned with recognized learning taxonomies.
  • Design a complete training session plan that includes timing, sequencing, activities, resources, and assessment points.
  • Apply a range of facilitation methods, including case studies, group discussions, role plays, and demonstrations, to match content type and audience profile.
  • Strengthen presentation and delivery skills through practice sessions supported by structured peer and facilitator feedback.
  • Implement practical techniques for managing group dynamics, handling difficult questions, and responding to challenging participant behaviors.
  • Adapt training delivery for virtual and blended learning environments while maintaining engagement and interaction.
  • Develop assessment tools, including knowledge checks, practical evaluations, and observation checklists, that measure achievement of learning objectives.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness using a multi-level evaluation model, from participant reaction to workplace application and organizational results.
  • Align training programs with organizational strategy, competency frameworks, and performance management processes.
  • Design a personal trainer development plan and a program implementation plan to be applied within the participant's organization after the course.

Who Should Attend

This Training of Trainers (TOT) course is intended for professionals who design, deliver, or oversee learning within their organizations. It is particularly relevant for internal trainers, learning and development specialists, training coordinators, instructional designers, and HR professionals responsible for capability building. It also suits subject matter experts, such as engineers, technical specialists, compliance officers, finance professionals, IT specialists, and health, safety, and environment practitioners, who are regularly asked to train colleagues, deliver onboarding programs, or cascade new procedures and systems. Within government entities and ministries, the course supports staff involved in civil service development, institutional capacity building, and national talent programs. In banks and financial institutions, it is valuable for professionals delivering training on products, regulations, risk, customer service, and internal controls. In oil and gas and industrial organizations, it benefits technical instructors, operations supervisors, competency assessors, and safety trainers who must ensure that critical knowledge is transferred accurately and consistently. Managers, team leaders, and department heads who coach and develop their teams will also gain practical tools to structure knowledge sharing and on-the-job learning. Senior leaders and decision makers responsible for learning strategy, training academies, or corporate universities will benefit from the sections on needs analysis, evaluation, and strategic alignment, which help ensure that training investment is directed toward measurable organizational outcomes.

Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Explain how adults learn and apply these principles to make training sessions more relevant, practical, and engaging.
  • Carry out a training needs analysis and produce a short needs summary that defines the target audience, performance gaps, and priority learning requirements.
  • Write learning objectives that clearly state the expected behavior, conditions, and standards of performance.
  • Build a detailed session plan and supporting materials, including participant handouts, visual aids, and activity instructions.
  • Select and use appropriate training methods for knowledge, skills, and attitude-based learning.
  • Deliver a training segment with confident body language, clear voice, effective questioning, and well-managed timing.
  • Manage group dynamics, encourage participation, and handle resistance, disengagement, or disruptive behavior professionally.
  • Facilitate interactive virtual sessions using polls, breakout groups, digital collaboration tools, and structured engagement techniques.
  • Design assessments that accurately measure whether participants have met the stated learning objectives.
  • Apply a structured evaluation approach to measure reaction, learning, behavior change, and organizational impact.
  • Give and receive constructive feedback that supports continuous improvement in training delivery.
  • Present a practical implementation plan for applying the course learning within their department or organization.
