Course Overview

Telecom sites depend on reliable power systems, suitable environmental conditions, and well-designed infrastructure to maintain uninterrupted network services. Failures in power supply, cooling, grounding, or backup systems can lead to service outages, equipment damage, and increased operating costs. This course develops practical engineering skills in telecom site infrastructure, covering power distribution, rectifiers, battery systems, generators, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), grounding, lightning protection, and environmental monitoring. Participants learn to assess site requirements, calculate power demand, inspect critical equipment, and evaluate backup autonomy. The programme also addresses preventive maintenance, energy efficiency, fault diagnosis, and infrastructure reliability. Through practical exercises, participants develop the ability to identify infrastructure risks, improve power availability, and establish maintenance procedures that support reliable telecom operations.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand telecom site infrastructure and power system architecture.
  • Calculate electrical loads and estimate site power requirements.
  • Evaluate rectifiers, batteries, generators, and UPS systems.
  • Apply grounding and lightning protection principles.
  • Assess cooling, ventilation, and environmental monitoring systems.
  • Diagnose common power and infrastructure faults.
  • Develop preventive maintenance and energy optimisation plans.
  • Improve site availability and infrastructure reliability.

Who Should Attend

Telecom site and power engineers. Electrical and infrastructure engineers. Radio access network (RAN) and transmission engineers. Telecom operations and maintenance teams. Data centre and critical facilities technicians. Infrastructure project managers. Technical supervisors responsible for telecom site reliability.

Learning Outcomes
