Course Overview

The Supply Chain Dashboards & Data Visualization Training Course equips supply chain, procurement, logistics, and reporting professionals with the skills to design and build clear, accurate, and decision-focused dashboards that turn supply chain data into insight and action. In government entities, ministries, healthcare systems, banks, energy and utility companies, manufacturing, retail, and distribution organizations, and large corporations, leaders need timely visibility of spend, supplier performance, inventory, deliveries, costs, and risks. Well-designed dashboards make this visibility possible; poorly designed ones create confusion, hide problems, and consume effort without improving decisions. Many supply chain reports and dashboards fall short. They may contain too many indicators, use charts that are difficult to read or visually misleading, lack context such as targets and trends, or rely on manual data preparation that is slow and error-prone. Different reports may show different numbers for the same measure, users may not trust the data, and dashboards may be designed without understanding what decisions their audience needs to make. As a result, dashboards are often admired at launch and then ignored. This course provides a practical, hands-on approach to supply chain dashboards and data visualization. Participants learn the purpose and types of dashboards, including strategic, tactical, and operational dashboards, and how to start from audience needs and decisions rather than from available data. The program covers selecting the right KPIs, preparing and modeling supply chain data from sources such as ERP, warehouse, transport, and procurement systems, and establishing consistent definitions and a single source of truth. Participants then learn established data visualization principles, how to choose the right chart for each purpose, the effective use of color, layout, and visual hierarchy, how to avoid misleading visuals, and how to design interactivity, filters, drill-downs, and exception alerts. The course applies these skills to practical supply chain dashboards, including procurement spend, supplier performance, inventory health, warehouse operations, transport and delivery performance, demand and forecast accuracy, control tower views, and executive scorecards. Participants also learn data storytelling, user testing, automation and data refresh, dashboard governance, and strategies to drive adoption. The course is delivered through a highly practical approach using spreadsheet and leading business intelligence tools with realistic supply chain datasets. Participants leave with a dashboard requirements template, a KPI definition sheet, a chart selection guide, a dashboard design checklist, completed practice dashboards, and a dashboard development plan for their organization.

Learning Objectives

  • Analyze the role of dashboards and data visualization in supply chain performance management and decision making on Day 1.
  • Evaluate existing supply chain reports and dashboards for clarity, accuracy, relevance, and usability.
  • Develop dashboard requirements based on audience needs, decisions, and questions rather than available data.
  • Select appropriate KPIs for strategic, tactical, and operational supply chain dashboards.
  • Prepare, clean, and model supply chain data from multiple sources to create reliable dashboard datasets.
  • Establish consistent KPI definitions and a single source of truth to build trust in dashboard data.
  • Apply established data visualization principles, including visual hierarchy, pre-attentive attributes, and effective use of color and space.
  • Select appropriate chart types for comparisons, trends, distributions, compositions, relationships, and geographic data.
  • Design interactive dashboards with filters, drill-downs, and exception alerts that highlight where action is needed.
  • Develop practical supply chain dashboards covering procurement, suppliers, inventory, warehousing, transport, demand, and executive performance.
  • Apply data storytelling techniques to present insights and recommendations clearly to decision makers.
  • Design a dashboard governance, automation, and adoption plan for the participant's organization by the end of Day 5.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for supply chain analysts, procurement and logistics analysts, business intelligence and reporting specialists, and data analysts who prepare supply chain reports and dashboards. It is also highly relevant for supply chain, procurement, inventory, warehouse, and transport managers who define reporting requirements and use dashboards to manage performance, as well as performance management and continuous improvement professionals. It is particularly valuable for professionals in ministries and government entities reporting on public procurement, central supply, and service delivery performance; in healthcare systems monitoring the availability, consumption, and cost of medicines and supplies; in banks and financial institutions reporting on procurement spend, supplier performance, and operational logistics; and in energy, utilities, manufacturing, retail, e-commerce, and distribution organizations managing complex supply chain operations. Finance and planning professionals who contribute to supply chain reporting and managers who present performance results to senior leadership will also benefit from the course.

Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Explain what makes a supply chain dashboard effective and useful.
  • Gather dashboard requirements by understanding users and the decisions they need to make.
  • Select a focused set of KPIs suited to each dashboard audience.
  • Prepare and combine supply chain data from different systems into a reliable dataset.
  • Define KPIs consistently so that dashboards show one version of the truth.
  • Apply visualization principles to make dashboards clear and easy to read.
  • Choose the right chart for each type of data and message.
  • Avoid common visual mistakes that mislead or confuse users.
  • Build interactive dashboards with filters, drill-downs, and alerts.
  • Create practical dashboards for procurement, inventory, warehouse, transport, and executive reporting.
  • Present dashboard insights as clear stories with recommended actions.
  • Plan dashboard automation, governance, and user adoption.
