Course Overview

The Supply Chain Analytics & Demand Forecasting Training Course equips supply chain, procurement, planning, and operations professionals with the analytical methods and practical tools needed to turn supply chain data into better forecasts, better inventory decisions, and better service levels. In government entities, ministries, banks, oil and gas companies, and large corporations, supply chains must balance availability, cost, and risk. Shortages can disrupt operations and services, while excess inventory ties up budgets, occupies storage, and risks obsolescence. Reliable forecasting and disciplined analytics are the foundation for getting this balance right. Many organizations hold large volumes of transactional data in ERP and warehouse systems, yet planning decisions are still based largely on experience, historical averages, or last year's figures. Forecast accuracy may not be measured, forecast bias may go unnoticed, and different departments may work with different numbers. Inventory policies may not reflect demand variability or lead-time uncertainty, and managers may receive reports that describe what happened without explaining why or what to do next. This course provides a structured and practical approach. Participants learn the four levels of analytics, from descriptive and diagnostic to predictive and prescriptive, and how they apply to supply chain decisions. The program covers key supply chain performance indicators, data preparation and cleansing, analyzing demand patterns such as trend, seasonality, and intermittent demand, and applying forecasting methods including moving averages, exponential smoothing, trend and seasonal models, regression, and methods suited to slow-moving items. Participants then learn how to measure forecast accuracy and bias, combine statistical forecasts with business judgment, link forecasts to inventory planning through safety stock, reorder points, and ABC and XYZ classification, and use scenario analysis and sales and operations planning to align supply with demand. The course is highly practical, with hands-on exercises using spreadsheet-based models and realistic datasets. Participants leave with a supply chain KPI set, a forecasting model template, a forecast accuracy tracker, an inventory policy analysis, a planning dashboard design, and an improvement plan for their organization.

Learning Objectives

  • Analyze the role of analytics and demand forecasting in supply chain performance, cost control, and service continuity on Day 1.
  • Apply descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics to common supply chain decisions.
  • Develop a focused set of supply chain KPIs, including service level, fill rate, on-time in-full delivery, inventory turnover, days of supply, and forecast accuracy.
  • Implement practical data preparation techniques, including cleansing, handling outliers, and adjusting for stockouts and one-off events.
  • Analyze demand patterns to identify level, trend, seasonality, and intermittent behavior in historical data.
  • Apply forecasting methods, including moving averages, exponential smoothing, trend and seasonal models, and regression, to realistic datasets.
  • Select appropriate forecasting approaches for different item types, including fast-moving, seasonal, and slow-moving or intermittent items.
  • Evaluate forecast performance using accuracy and bias measures and identify actions to improve forecasting quality.
  • Integrate statistical forecasts with business intelligence and expert judgment through a structured consensus process.
  • Apply inventory analytics, including ABC and XYZ classification, safety stock, and reorder point calculations, to align inventory with demand variability and service targets.
  • Design a supply chain analytics dashboard that supports planning and management decisions.
  • Develop an improvement plan for supply chain analytics and demand forecasting in the participant's organization by the end of Day 5.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for supply chain managers, demand and supply planners, inventory controllers, materials managers, procurement and category managers, warehouse and logistics managers, and supply chain analysts responsible for planning, replenishment, and performance reporting. It is also relevant for operations managers, maintenance planners, and finance professionals who rely on accurate forecasts for budgeting and resource planning. It is particularly valuable for professionals in ministries and government entities managing medical supplies, strategic stocks, public service materials, and centralized purchasing; in banks and financial institutions managing operational supplies, IT assets, branch requirements, and facilities; and in oil and gas and industrial organizations managing spare parts, maintenance, repair, and operations materials, critical inventory, and project materials where both shortages and excess stock carry significant cost and risk. Business analysts, data and reporting specialists, and ERP professionals who support supply chain planning will also benefit from the course.

Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Explain how analytics and forecasting improve service levels, costs, and supply chain resilience.
  • Select and interpret key supply chain KPIs for their operations.
  • Prepare and clean historical demand data so that it is suitable for forecasting.
  • Identify demand patterns and choose forecasting methods that match them.
  • Build and test forecasting models using spreadsheet tools.
  • Measure forecast accuracy and bias and use the results to improve forecasts.
  • Handle slow-moving and intermittent demand items using suitable techniques.
  • Combine statistical forecasts with expert input in a disciplined way.
  • Classify inventory using ABC and XYZ analysis and set differentiated inventory policies.
  • Calculate safety stock and reorder points based on demand variability, lead times, and service targets.
  • Use scenario analysis to assess the impact of demand and supply changes.
  • Present supply chain performance and forecasts through a clear dashboard for decision makers.
