Course Overview

The Strategic Communication Planning Training Course equips communication leaders, public relations and corporate communication professionals, government communicators, and marketing and engagement specialists with the frameworks, tools, and discipline needed to plan communication strategically so that it is aligned with organizational goals, audience-focused, integrated across channels, and measurable. Too often, communication is reactive, fragmented, and activity-driven, producing content and campaigns without a clear link to objectives or evidence of impact. In government entities, ministries, public authorities, banks, and large organizations, strategic communication planning turns communication into a purposeful driver of reputation, awareness, behavior, and support, while its absence leads to wasted effort, mixed messages, and communication that fails to move audiences or support strategy. The course covers strategic communication planning end to end. Participants learn the role of strategic communication and the difference between strategic and tactical communication, the link between communication and organizational strategy, and the strategic communication planning process and models. The program then addresses situation analysis and research, including understanding the context, issues, and reputation, defining communication goals and SMART objectives, and audience analysis, segmentation, and insight. Participants cover developing the core narrative, key messages, and positioning, choosing strategies and the channel and content mix across earned, owned, paid, and shared media, and integrating communication across functions and campaigns. Participants also examine planning and sequencing communication activities and campaigns, budgeting and resourcing, risk and issues anticipation within the plan, stakeholder and leadership alignment, measurement and evaluation frameworks linking outputs to outcomes and impact, and adapting the plan, with the week building toward a complete communication plan. The responsible use of data and AI in planning is addressed throughout. The course is delivered through a strategic communication planning project carried through the course, planning workshops, audience and message exercises, and measurement design. Participants leave with a strategic communication planning framework, a situation analysis and audience insight toolkit, a messaging and narrative guide, a communication plan and campaign template, and a communication measurement and evaluation framework.
