Course Overview

This course develops the practical skills required to test software applications, identify defects, verify system functionality, and improve software quality throughout the development lifecycle. Participants learn how to design effective test cases, execute structured testing activities, document defects, and assess whether applications meet functional and business requirements. The programme covers software testing fundamentals, testing methodologies, test planning, manual testing, test case design, defect management, regression testing, integration testing, system testing, user acceptance testing, and quality assurance practices. Participants also explore test automation fundamentals, testing tools, risk-based testing, and continuous improvement techniques to strengthen application reliability and support consistent software delivery.

Learning Objectives

  • By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Explain software testing principles and the role of quality assurance throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Differentiate between quality assurance, quality control, verification, and validation.
  • Develop test strategies and test plans aligned with project requirements and delivery objectives.
  • Design effective test cases, test scenarios, and test data using established testing techniques.
  • Execute functional, integration, system, regression, and user acceptance testing.
  • Identify, document, classify, and track software defects throughout the testing process.
  • Apply risk-based testing to prioritize critical functionality and high-impact defects.
  • Evaluate test coverage, execution results, and software quality indicators.
  • Use appropriate testing tools to manage test cases, defects, and test execution activities.
  • Understand test automation principles and identify suitable automation opportunities.
  • Prepare test reports and communicate quality risks to development teams and stakeholders.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for software testers, quality assurance analysts, software developers, business analysts, application support specialists, systems analysts, and IT professionals involved in software development, implementation, maintenance, or system validation. It is particularly suitable for professionals seeking to establish structured testing practices, improve defect detection, and strengthen the reliability of business applications. The programme is also relevant to quality managers, IT project managers, digital transformation teams, and application development teams working in government entities, ministries, banks, financial institutions, oil and gas companies, industrial organizations, and large corporations. Participants should have a basic understanding of software applications and business processes. Previous testing experience is beneficial but not essential.

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the software testing lifecycle and its relationship with software development methodologies.
  • Distinguish between testing levels, testing types, and quality assurance activities.
  • Prepare structured test plans based on requirements, project scope, and risk assessments.
  • Design test cases using equivalence partitioning, boundary value analysis, and decision tables.
  • Execute manual tests and record results using consistent testing procedures.
  • Manage defects through reporting, prioritization, retesting, and closure.
  • Perform regression, integration, system, and user acceptance testing.
  • Assess test coverage and interpret quality metrics to support release decisions.
  • Apply risk-based testing to focus effort on critical system functions.
  • Identify appropriate opportunities for test automation and understand its limitations.
  • Produce clear test execution reports and communicate unresolved quality risks.
  • Recommend improvements to testing processes, documentation, and software quality practices.
