Course Overview

The Risk Management Professional (RMP) Exam Preparation Training Course equips experienced project, program, and risk professionals with the knowledge, structured review, and exam practice needed to prepare with confidence for the PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) certification exam, while strengthening their practical ability to manage risk in real projects. In government entities, ministries, public authorities, banks, healthcare systems, energy and utility companies, construction, engineering, and technology organizations, and large corporations, effective risk management is essential for protecting objectives, allocating contingency wisely, and making informed decisions under uncertainty. The PMI-RMP credential is widely recognized as evidence of specialized competence in project risk management. Many candidates have strong practical experience but find the exam demanding. Questions are scenario-based and test the ability to apply risk management concepts, terminology, and processes as defined in PMI's standards and exam content outline, rather than to recall definitions alone. Candidates may be unfamiliar with specific tools and techniques, the correct sequence of risk processes, the distinction between threats and opportunities and their response strategies, or quantitative concepts such as expected monetary value, decision trees, and Monte Carlo simulation. Without a structured study plan and sufficient practice, candidates may struggle to interpret questions and manage their time effectively. This course provides a comprehensive and structured review aligned with the performance domains of the current PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline: risk strategy and planning, risk identification, risk analysis, risk response, and monitoring and closing risks. Participants review key concepts from PMI's standard for risk management in portfolios, programs, and projects and related PMI guidance, and relate them to recognized frameworks such as ISO 31000. The program covers developing risk strategy and risk management plans, assessing risk appetite and thresholds, engaging stakeholders and understanding risk attitudes, and applying risk identification techniques. Participants then review qualitative analysis, including probability and impact assessment, risk data quality, urgency, and prioritization, and quantitative analysis, including expected monetary value, decision tree analysis, sensitivity analysis, and Monte Carlo simulation. The course also addresses response strategies for threats and opportunities, contingency and fallback plans, residual and secondary risks, risk ownership, monitoring and control, reserve analysis, risk audits and reviews, risk in agile and adaptive environments, communication and reporting, and closing risks and capturing lessons learned. Throughout the course, participants practice realistic scenario-based questions, learn exam techniques, and complete a full-length practice exam with detailed review. Eligibility requirements, exam content, and application procedures for the PMI-RMP certification are set by the Project Management Institute and should be confirmed on PMI's official website. PMI and PMI-RMP are registered marks of the Project Management Institute, Inc. The course is delivered through an interactive, exam-focused approach combining concise concept reviews, case scenarios, calculation exercises, domain-based practice questions, and a full mock exam. Participants leave with a domain-by-domain study guide, a risk management process and terminology summary, a formula and calculation reference sheet, a bank of practice questions, a personal study plan, and a mock exam performance analysis identifying areas for further review.

Learning Objectives

  • Analyze the structure and performance domains of the current PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline and develop a personal exam preparation plan on Day 1.

  • Analyze stakeholder risk attitudes and engagement needs and their influence on risk decisions.
  • Apply risk identification techniques, including interviews, workshops, assumption and constraint analysis, root cause analysis, checklists, and SWOT analysis.
  • Apply qualitative risk analysis, including probability and impact assessment, risk data quality assessment, urgency, and prioritization.
  • Apply quantitative risk analysis techniques, including expected monetary value, decision tree analysis, sensitivity analysis, and Monte Carlo simulation, and interpret their results.
  • Select appropriate response strategies for threats and opportunities, and develop contingency plans, fallback plans, and risk ownership arrangements.
  • Assess residual and secondary risks and apply reserve analysis for contingency and management reserves.
  • Apply risk monitoring, risk audits, risk reviews, communication, and reporting practices, including in agile and adaptive environments.
  • Apply processes for closing risks, capturing lessons learned, and improving organizational risk management.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for project managers, program managers, risk managers, project control professionals, PMO staff, and risk analysts who plan to pursue the PMI-RMP certification and meet or expect to meet PMI's experience and education requirements. It is also highly relevant for experienced professionals who want a structured, standards-based review of project risk management to strengthen their practice, even if they do not intend to sit the exam immediately. It is particularly valuable for professionals in ministries, government entities, and public authorities managing major capital, transformation, and digital programs; in banks and financial institutions managing project, operational, and change risks; in healthcare systems managing complex facility and system projects; and in energy, utilities, oil and gas, construction, engineering, and technology organizations delivering high-risk projects. Enterprise risk management professionals, internal auditors, and consultants who support project risk management will also benefit from the course.

Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Explain the PMI-RMP exam structure, domains, and question style and follow a clear preparation plan.
  • Use PMI risk management terminology accurately and consistently.
  • Describe how risk strategy and planning establish the foundation for effective risk management.
  • Select and apply appropriate risk identification techniques for different situations.
  • Prioritize risks using qualitative analysis and assess data quality and urgency.
  • Perform expected monetary value and decision tree calculations correctly.
  • Interpret Monte Carlo simulation and sensitivity analysis outputs.
  • Choose the best response strategy for a given threat or opportunity scenario.
