The Risk Management for Construction & Infrastructure Projects Training Course equips owners, project managers, engineers, contractors, consultants, and project control professionals with practical, sector-specific methods to identify, assess, allocate, and manage the risks that affect construction and infrastructure projects throughout their lifecycle. Government entities, ministries, public authorities, utilities, developers, and contractors deliver roads, bridges, rail, airports, ports, water and wastewater systems, energy facilities, public buildings, hospitals, and urban developments that involve large investments, long durations, complex interfaces, and high public visibility. These projects are exposed to a wide range of technical, commercial, contractual, environmental, social, and political risks. Construction and infrastructure projects frequently experience cost overruns and delays caused by risks that were foreseeable but not managed effectively. Ground conditions may be inadequately investigated, designs may be incomplete when contracts are awarded, permits, land acquisition, and utility relocations may take longer than planned, and interfaces between packages and stakeholders may not be coordinated. Risk may be transferred to contractors who are not best placed to manage it, resulting in higher prices, claims, disputes, or contractor distress. Risk registers may be prepared for approval and then not maintained, contingencies may be set without analysis, and health, safety, environmental, and community risks may not receive sufficient attention. This course provides a structured approach to risk management tailored to construction and infrastructure projects, informed by recognized risk management standards and international contracting practice. Participants learn the typical risk profile of construction and infrastructure projects and how risks evolve across the lifecycle, from planning and feasibility through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover to operations. The program covers risk identification and assessment techniques, risk registers, and risk workshops, as well as the key risk areas of ground and geotechnical conditions, design and constructability, permits and approvals, land acquisition and utilities, interfaces, supply chain and materials, labor and productivity, weather and climate, price escalation and currency, health, safety, and environment, and stakeholder and community risks. Participants then learn how delivery models such as design-bid-build, design and build, EPC, construction management, alliancing, and public-private partnerships allocate risk, and how standard contract forms, including widely used international forms, address key risks. The course also addresses risk allocation principles, securities, guarantees, and construction insurance, contractor risk and insolvency, cost and schedule contingency and quantitative risk analysis, claims and dispute risks, owner and contractor perspectives, risk governance and stage gate reviews, risk monitoring and reporting, and lessons learned. The course is delivered through an interactive, application-focused approach with risk workshops, case studies of real-world construction and infrastructure challenges, contract risk allocation exercises, and a risk management plan developed for a realistic project. Participants leave with a construction and infrastructure risk checklist, a risk register template, a risk allocation matrix by delivery model, a ground risk management checklist, an insurance and securities review checklist, a contingency assessment worksheet, and a project risk management plan outline.
