The Reading Electrical Drawings & Single Line Diagrams (SLD) Training Course equips engineers, technicians, supervisors, and operations and maintenance personnel with the practical skills to read, interpret, and use electrical drawings accurately and confidently. Electrical drawings are the primary language used to design, install, operate, maintain, isolate, and troubleshoot electrical systems in oil and gas facilities, petrochemical and industrial plants, power and water utilities, buildings, and infrastructure. Misreading a single line diagram or schematic can lead to incorrect isolations, unsafe switching, installation errors, prolonged troubleshooting, and serious safety incidents. The course takes participants through the main types of electrical drawings and how they relate to one another. Participants learn international electrical symbols and reference designation conventions, standard protection device numbers, and how to read single line diagrams showing sources, generators, transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, busbars, instrument transformers, protection relays, motor control centers, variable speed drives, UPS systems, and earthing arrangements, along with the ratings and technical data they contain. The program then covers three-line diagrams, control schematics and ladder diagrams, motor starter circuits and interlocks, wiring and interconnection diagrams, terminal and cable schedules, layout drawings for power, lighting, cable routing, and earthing, hazardous area classification drawings, and instrument loop diagrams. Participants also learn cross-referencing, revision control and as-built drawings, and how to use drawings for safe isolation and switching and for systematic troubleshooting. The course is delivered through extensive practical exercises using real-style industrial drawing sets. Participants leave with an electrical symbols and designation reference guide, a single line diagram reading checklist, a control schematic interpretation guide, a drawing cross-referencing guide, and an isolation planning checklist based on electrical drawings.
