Course Overview

The Public Relations & Media Relations Training Course equips public relations officers, communications and media staff, spokespersons, and government and corporate communicators with the knowledge and practical skills needed to manage an organization's reputation, build strong relationships with the media and stakeholders, and communicate effectively across traditional and digital channels. Public relations shapes how an organization is perceived by the public, media, government, customers, and other stakeholders, and in an environment of 24-hour news, social media, and rapid information flow, professional public and media relations are essential to building trust, managing reputation, and responding effectively to events and crises. In government entities, ministries, public authorities, banks, and corporations, skilled communicators protect and enhance reputation, while weak practice leads to missed opportunities, misrepresentation, and reputational damage. The course covers public relations and media relations comprehensively and practically. Participants learn the role and functions of public relations, the difference between public relations, marketing, and advertising, key publics and stakeholders, and how reputation is built and protected. The program then addresses public relations strategy and planning, developing key messages and communication content, and media relations, including understanding how media work, building media relationships, writing press releases and media materials, and organizing press conferences and interviews. Participants cover spokesperson and media interview skills, including handling questions and difficult interviews, digital PR and social media, online reputation, and managing stakeholders and internal communication. Participants also examine crisis communication and managing reputation under pressure, event and sponsorship communication, corporate social responsibility and community relations communication, measuring and evaluating public relations, ethics and credibility in communication, and the responsible use of digital tools and AI in public relations, with practice throughout. The course is delivered through practical writing and messaging exercises, media interview simulations, press material development, and crisis communication scenarios. Participants leave with a public relations strategy and planning template, a key messaging and press release toolkit, a media interview preparation guide, a crisis communication checklist, and a public relations measurement and evaluation framework.
