The Project Risk Governance & Risk Reporting for PMOs Training Course equips PMO leaders, portfolio and program managers, risk managers, and governance professionals with the frameworks and practical tools needed to establish effective risk governance across projects, programs, and portfolios, and to deliver risk reporting that genuinely informs decisions. In government entities, ministries, public authorities, banks, healthcare systems, energy and utility companies, and large corporations, PMOs are increasingly expected to provide leadership with a consolidated, reliable view of delivery risk, ensure consistent risk practices across initiatives, and connect project risk management with enterprise risk management and organizational risk appetite. Many PMOs manage risk registers but struggle to provide meaningful oversight. Each project may use different risk categories, scoring scales, and templates, making comparison and aggregation difficult. Escalation thresholds may be unclear, so significant risks remain at project level while minor issues are escalated. Risk data may be incomplete or outdated, heat maps may be produced without insight, and reports to steering committees and executives may focus on the number of risks rather than exposure, trends, and required decisions. Roles and accountabilities for risk ownership, oversight, and assurance may also be unclear, and project risk information may not flow into enterprise risk management. This course provides a structured approach to project and portfolio risk governance and risk reporting from the PMO perspective, informed by recognized risk management and governance frameworks. Participants learn the principles of risk governance, the three lines model, and the roles and accountabilities of boards, sponsors, steering committees, PMOs, project managers, risk owners, enterprise risk management functions, and internal audit. The program covers developing a project risk management policy and framework, defining risk appetite and tolerance at portfolio and project levels, standardizing risk processes, templates, taxonomies, and scoring scales, and calibrating assessments for consistency. Participants then learn how to design escalation criteria and thresholds, aggregate risks across programs and portfolios while addressing interdependencies, systemic risks, and double counting, and ensure risk data quality. The course also addresses designing risk reports and dashboards for different audiences, using key risk indicators, trends, and exposure measures, reporting contingency and reserves, using and avoiding misuse of heat maps, conducting risk reviews, deep dives, and stage gate assessments, providing assurance through independent reviews and health checks, integrating with enterprise risk management, selecting risk management systems, strengthening risk culture, and assessing and improving risk management maturity. The course is delivered through an interactive, application-focused approach with governance design workshops, risk aggregation and reporting exercises, dashboard design, and case studies. Participants leave with a project risk governance framework, a roles and responsibilities matrix, a standard risk taxonomy and scoring guide, escalation criteria and thresholds, a portfolio risk aggregation approach, risk report and dashboard templates for different audiences, and a risk management maturity improvement plan for their PMO.
