This training course provides a practical, field-focused understanding of how produced water is characterized, treated, reinjected, and disposed of over the life of an oil field. As fields mature, water volumes frequently grow well beyond oil volumes, and the way this water is handled directly governs facility capacity, operating cost, reservoir pressure support, well integrity, and environmental compliance. The course follows produced water from the separator water outlet to its final destination. Participants examine water composition and contaminants, oil-in-water measurement, droplet behavior, and the main deoiling technologies, including skim tanks, corrugated plate interceptors, hydrocyclones, induced and dissolved gas flotation, nutshell filters, and fine filtration, together with water clarifier chemistry and the selection of a complete treatment train. A strong focus is placed on injection water quality and the subsurface: solids and oil limits, scaling and water compatibility, sulfate-reducing bacteria and reservoir souring, oxygen and corrosion control, injectivity decline, injection above fracture pressure, and the surveillance of injection and disposal wells using Hall plots, step-rate tests, and pressure falloff tests. Through water analysis exercises, case studies, and troubleshooting scenarios, participants learn to diagnose off-specification water, protect injectivity and well integrity, and build a produced water management plan that balances regulatory requirements, cost, and reliability. Crude oil dehydration and general utility water treatment are covered in separate courses and appear here only where they interface with produced water systems.
