Course Overview

The Procurement Best Practices Training Course equips procurement leaders and professionals with proven practices, frameworks, and tools used by high-performing procurement functions to deliver sustained value, control risk, and support organizational strategy. In government entities, ministries, banks, healthcare systems, energy and utility companies, manufacturing, construction, and service organizations, and large corporations, procurement is increasingly expected to move beyond transactional buying to become a strategic partner that drives savings, innovation, resilience, sustainability, and compliance. Achieving this requires a clear understanding of what good practice looks like and how to apply it in the organization's specific context. Many procurement functions know they need to improve but are unsure where to focus. Procurement may be involved too late to influence requirements, spend may be fragmented across many suppliers and contracts, and a significant share of spending may occur outside agreed procurement channels. Sourcing may be managed event by event rather than through category strategies, contract and supplier management may be weak after award, and decisions may still be driven mainly by price. Data may be limited, digital tools underused, KPIs focused on activity rather than value, and procurement teams may lack the skills and stakeholder relationships needed to influence the business. This course brings together recognized best practices across the full scope of modern procurement. Participants learn how to assess procurement maturity, design an effective procurement operating model, and align procurement with organizational strategy and international principles for good public procurement. The program covers early procurement involvement and demand management, category management and strategic sourcing, supplier segmentation, total cost of ownership and value-based decision making, should-cost analysis, and increasing spend under management while reducing off-contract spending. It also addresses contract management and supplier relationship management excellence, procurement risk and supply resilience, sustainable procurement informed by ISO 20400, social value and local content, ethics and integrity, digital procurement including e-sourcing, procure-to-pay automation, analytics, and emerging technologies, procurement KPIs and benchmarking, procurement capability and competency development, business partnering with internal stakeholders, and leading procurement transformation. The course is delivered through an interactive, application-focused approach with maturity assessments, case studies, benchmarking discussions, and group workshops. Participants leave with a procurement maturity assessment, a best practice gap analysis, a category strategy outline, a spend under management improvement plan, a procurement balanced scorecard, a procurement capability development plan, and a procurement improvement roadmap for their organization.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for procurement directors, heads of procurement, procurement and category managers, strategic sourcing leads, and procurement excellence and transformation professionals responsible for improving procurement performance. It is also highly relevant for experienced buyers, contract managers, and supply chain professionals preparing for leadership roles, and for professionals responsible for procurement policy, governance, and systems. It is particularly valuable for professionals in ministries and government entities seeking to improve value for money, transparency, and efficiency in public procurement; in banks and financial institutions strengthening procurement, outsourcing, and third-party management; in healthcare systems improving the procurement of medicines, equipment, and services; and in energy, utilities, manufacturing, construction, retail, and service organizations pursuing cost optimization, supplier innovation, and resilience.
