Course Overview

The Process Analyzer in Refinery Training Course develops the technical knowledge and maintenance skills required to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain process analyzers used in petroleum refineries. It focuses on online analytical instruments that provide real-time measurements of process composition and quality to support process control, product specification compliance, and operational efficiency. The course covers the operating principles, components, sampling systems, calibration, validation, and maintenance of common refinery analyzers, including gas chromatographs, oxygen analyzers, moisture analyzers, hydrogen analyzers, sulfur analyzers, and other process-specific analytical instruments. Particular attention is given to sample conditioning, sample transport, measurement accuracy, and the relationship between analyzer performance and process conditions. Participants learn to diagnose measurement deviations, identify sampling system problems, interpret analyzer diagnostics, and implement effective maintenance practices. The course also addresses analyzer integration with distributed control systems (DCS), preventive maintenance planning, and troubleshooting approaches relevant to refinery operations.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the operating principles and applications of process analyzers in refineries.
  • Identify the main components of online analytical measurement systems.
  • Understand sampling systems and sample conditioning requirements.
  • Apply calibration, validation, and performance verification procedures.
  • Diagnose common analyzer faults and measurement inaccuracies.
  • Troubleshoot sample transport, pressure, flow, and conditioning problems.
  • Evaluate analyzer performance and its impact on process control and product quality.
  • Develop maintenance practices that improve analyzer reliability and availability.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for Senior Instrumentation Engineers, Instrumentation Maintenance Engineers, Process Analyzer Engineers, analyzer technicians, and technical personnel responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting online analyzers in petroleum refineries. It is also suitable for instrumentation supervisors, control and automation engineers, maintenance planners, and reliability engineers involved in refinery process measurement, analytical instrumentation, and process control systems.
