Course Overview

The Power BI for Finance & Accounting Training Course equips finance, accounting, and financial planning professionals with the practical skills to transform financial data from ERP systems, general ledgers, budgets, and spreadsheets into reliable, automated, and interactive financial reports and dashboards using Microsoft Power BI. Finance teams in government entities, ministries, banks, energy and utility companies, healthcare systems, and large corporations spend significant time collecting, reconciling, and formatting data in spreadsheets, leaving less time for analysis and insight. Power BI enables finance professionals to automate data preparation, build a single trusted model of financial data, analyze performance against budgets and prior periods, and deliver clear, timely information to management and boards. The course follows the finance reporting workflow from raw data to executive dashboards. Participants learn the Power BI environment, connecting to finance data sources, and using Power Query to clean, transform, and combine general ledger, trial balance, budget, and subledger data, including mapping charts of accounts and cost centers. The program then addresses building financial data models using star schemas with general ledger facts and account, cost center, entity, and date dimensions, writing DAX measures for financial analysis, including time intelligence, year-to-date and prior-year comparisons, budget versus actual and forecast variances, rolling periods, ratios, and currency conversion, and presenting financial statements, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow layouts with correct hierarchies, subtotals, and sign conventions. Participants also examine financial key performance indicators and working capital analysis, variance and drill-down analysis, visualization best practices for financial communication, executive dashboards, row-level security for confidential data, publishing, sharing, and scheduled refresh, reconciliation to the ledger, data governance, and the use of AI features in Power BI. The course is delivered through intensive hands-on exercises using realistic finance datasets and case studies. Participants leave with a finance data model template, a chart of accounts mapping template, a DAX measures library for finance, financial statement and variance report templates, and a CFO dashboard. This course builds practical Power BI skills for finance and is not an official Microsoft certification program.
