The Portfolio Capacity & Demand Management Training Course equips portfolio managers, PMO leaders, resource managers, and senior decision makers with the methods and tools needed to match the demand for projects, programmes, and change with the organization's real capacity to deliver and absorb it. In government entities, ministries, public authorities, banks, healthcare systems, energy and utility companies, and large corporations, the volume of requested initiatives, regulatory changes, system enhancements, and improvement activities almost always exceeds available people, skills, budgets, suppliers, and management attention. Without deliberate capacity and demand management, organizations overcommit, start too much work at once, and deliver less value, more slowly, than they could with a more focused portfolio. Many organizations approve new initiatives based on funding availability alone, without considering whether the necessary skills, business staff, suppliers, and decision makers are available at the right time. Specialist resources may be allocated to multiple projects simultaneously, business units may face more change than they can absorb, and bottlenecks in particular skills or functions may delay entire portfolios. Demand arrives through multiple channels, is poorly visible, and is rarely forecast, while capacity data may be incomplete or unreliable. As a result, projects compete for the same people, schedules slip, quality suffers, staff experience burnout, and leadership lacks a clear picture of what the organization can realistically achieve. This course provides a structured and practical approach to portfolio capacity and demand management, informed by recognized portfolio management, resource management, and flow-based delivery practices. Participants learn the types and sources of demand, including strategic projects, regulatory and mandatory work, enhancements, maintenance, and business-as-usual activities, and how to establish demand intake, pipeline management, and demand forecasting. The program covers the dimensions of capacity, including people and skills, financial capacity, supplier and vendor capacity, business change absorption capacity, and governance and decision-making capacity, and how to measure and model capacity using skills inventories, availability, and utilization data. Participants then learn capacity and demand gap analysis, bottleneck identification, scenario planning, prioritization and sequencing to fit capacity, limiting work in progress, capacity allocation models across run, grow, and transform investments, and strategies to close capacity gaps, including reprioritization, deferral, stopping work, recruitment, contracting, outsourcing, training, and automation. The course also addresses change saturation and business readiness, integrated portfolio planning and capacity review forums, supporting tools and data, capacity and flow performance measures such as utilization, throughput, and lead time, and building a sustainable capacity management practice. The course is delivered through an interactive, application-focused approach with capacity and demand modeling exercises, portfolio scenario simulations, bottleneck analysis, and case studies. Participants leave with a demand intake and pipeline template, a demand forecasting worksheet, a capacity model covering skills, finance, suppliers, and change absorption, a capacity-demand gap analysis tool, a scenario planning template, a capacity allocation framework, a capacity review forum design, and a capacity and demand management implementation roadmap.
