The Operational Risk Management for Non-Financial Organizations Training Course equips risk managers, operations managers, internal auditors, and business leaders with practical methods to identify, assess, control, monitor, and report the operational risks that can disrupt services, harm people, damage assets, and undermine organizational performance. While operational risk management is well established in banking and financial services, it is equally critical for government entities, ministries, public authorities, energy, oil and gas, and utility companies, healthcare systems, transport and logistics operators, manufacturing and industrial organizations, telecommunications providers, and large corporations. These organizations depend on complex processes, people, technology, suppliers, and physical assets, and failures in any of these can lead to service outages, safety incidents, financial loss, regulatory penalties, and reputational damage. In many non-financial organizations, operational risks are managed in silos by different functions such as health and safety, maintenance, IT, security, procurement, and compliance, without a consistent framework or consolidated view. Risk registers may focus on strategic risks while overlooking the process, people, system, and third-party failures that cause most incidents. Controls may be undocumented or untested, incidents and near misses may not be analyzed for underlying causes, and key risk indicators may be absent. As a result, leadership may lack early warning of emerging operational risks and confidence that critical services can withstand disruption. This course provides a structured and practical approach to operational risk management tailored to non-financial organizations, informed by internationally recognized risk management, internal control, business continuity, and operational resilience standards and frameworks. Participants learn the nature and sources of operational risk arising from people, processes, systems, and external events, and how operational risk management fits within enterprise risk management, risk appetite, and governance, including the three lines model. The program covers developing an operational risk taxonomy, identifying risks through process mapping, workshops, and risk and control self-assessments, and analyzing them using techniques such as bow-tie analysis, failure modes and effects analysis, and scenario analysis. Participants then learn how to design and assess preventive, detective, and corrective controls, test control effectiveness, establish key risk indicators and thresholds, and collect and analyze incident, loss, and near-miss data with root cause analysis. The course also addresses specific operational risk areas, including supply chain and third-party risk, technology and cyber risk, people risk, fraud risk, asset and infrastructure failure, health, safety, and environmental risk, and legal and compliance risk, as well as integration with business continuity and operational resilience, including identifying critical services and setting impact tolerances. Participants finally learn operational risk reporting and dashboards, risk culture, the use of governance, risk, and compliance tools, and how to build and mature an operational risk management framework. The course is delivered through an interactive, application-focused approach with process-based risk identification workshops, risk and control self-assessment exercises, bow-tie and scenario analysis, key risk indicator design, incident analysis, and case studies from public and private sector organizations. Participants leave with an operational risk taxonomy, a risk and control self-assessment template, a bow-tie analysis template, a control design and testing checklist, a key risk indicator framework, an incident and loss data template, an operational resilience mapping tool, an operational risk dashboard design, and an operational risk framework improvement plan.
