Course Overview

The Neural Networks Training Course explains, from first principles, how neural networks work and how they learn. Participants start with the artificial neuron and the perceptron, then see how weights, biases and activation functions combine into multilayer networks capable of modeling complex, non-linear relationships in data. The emphasis throughout is on understanding what happens inside a network during training, so that participants can build models with confidence rather than treating them as black boxes. At the heart of the course is the learning process itself. Participants work through loss functions, gradient descent and backpropagation, and learn how training, validation and test data are used to measure real performance. They then tackle the practical problems every practitioner meets: overfitting and underfitting, regularization techniques such as dropout and early stopping, and the hyperparameters that decide whether a network trains well or poorly. Organizations in banking, energy, manufacturing, healthcare, telecommunications and government use neural networks for demand forecasting, fraud detection, predictive maintenance and customer analytics. The course relates each concept to prediction tasks of this kind, and closes with methods for evaluating and interpreting a trained network so that its results can be explained to business stakeholders. Learning is hands-on: each day combines short explanations with guided exercises, and the final day brings everything together as participants build, train and evaluate a neural network end to end.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain how artificial neurons, weights, biases and activation functions combine to produce a network's output.
  • Build multilayer neural networks and understand how depth and width affect what they can learn.
  • Select appropriate loss functions for regression and classification problems.
  • Apply gradient descent and backpropagation to train a neural network.
  • Organize training, validation and test data to measure true model performance.
  • Detect overfitting and underfitting and apply regularization techniques to control them.
  • Tune hyperparameters such as learning rate, batch size and network size in a systematic way.
  • Evaluate neural networks with suitable metrics and interpret their predictions.
  • Diagnose common training problems, including vanishing gradients and unstable learning.
  • Build, train and evaluate a complete neural network for a business prediction task.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for data analysts, software developers, early-career data scientists, engineers, researchers and technical professionals who want a solid, hands-on understanding of how neural networks work and learn. It suits participants who are starting out with neural networks, work with data in their roles, and want to build and train their own models rather than rely only on ready-made tools. The program is equally valuable for professionals working in government entities, ministries, public sector organizations, banks and financial institutions, oil and gas organizations, manufacturing companies, healthcare providers, educational institutions, telecommunications companies, logistics providers, consulting firms, and multinational corporations seeking to leverage deep learning technologies to improve operational performance, automate business processes, and accelerate innovation. Technical team leads and AI project managers who need to understand what their teams build, as well as professionals working on predictive analytics, demand forecasting, fraud detection, quality assurance and predictive maintenance, will also benefit from the course's step-by-step approach.

Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Describe the structure of a perceptron and a multilayer network and the role of each component.
  • Compare common activation functions and choose suitable ones for hidden and output layers.
  • Calculate and interpret loss for regression and classification tasks.
  • Explain step by step how backpropagation computes gradients and updates weights.
  • Train a multilayer network using gradient descent and its mini-batch and stochastic variants.
  • Read learning curves to judge whether a model is learning, underfitting or overfitting.
  • Apply dropout, weight penalties and early stopping to improve generalization.
  • Tune hyperparameters using validation data and cross-validation.
  • Evaluate a trained network with appropriate metrics and explain which inputs drive its predictions.
  • Deliver an end-to-end neural network solution, from data preparation to an evaluated model.
