Course Overview

The National Data Standards Compliance & Assessment Training Course equips government data offices, compliance teams, and internal auditors to turn national data management and personal data protection standards into a working compliance program. Rather than revisiting general data governance concepts, the course works through the standards domain by domain and converts each requirement into owned controls, documented evidence, and measurable compliance indicators. Government entities across the Gulf are increasingly assessed by national data regulators, such as the National Data Management Office (NDMO) in Saudi Arabia, against published requirements for data management, classification, data sharing, and personal data protection. Passing these assessments requires a clear view of which controls apply, who owns them, what proof will satisfy an assessor, and how progress is reported to leadership and to the regulator. The program covers reading and scoping national standards, control applicability, gap assessment, compliance planning, policy and control design, evidence registers, self-assessment, internal audit testing, remediation tracking, and KPI reporting, with attention to the links between data standards and personal data protection law. Through a running case of a government entity, participants build a control applicability matrix, gap assessment, evidence register, mock assessment, and compliance dashboard that they can adapt to their own organization's assessment cycle.

Learning Objectives

  • Interpret the structure of national data management and personal data protection standards.
  • Determine which domains, controls, and specifications apply to a government entity.
  • Build a control applicability matrix linked to data assets and organizational units.

Who Should Attend

This training course is designed for chief data officers, data office heads, data management officers, data governance and data quality specialists, data owners and data stewards, privacy and personal data protection officers, compliance managers, and internal auditors responsible for data controls. It is particularly relevant to ministries, government authorities, and government-owned companies that are subject to national data management, data classification, data sharing, and personal data protection standards and must demonstrate compliance during regulator assessments. The program will also benefit risk managers, information security and records management professionals, enterprise architecture teams, strategy and performance officers, and consultants who support government entities in preparing compliance plans, evidence, and progress reports.

Learning Outcomes

  • Explain how national data standards are organized into domains, controls, and specifications.
  • Define the compliance scope and justify control applicability for their entity.
  • Map controls to data assets, systems, data owners, and organizational units.

  • Prepare a prioritized compliance plan that leadership can approve and fund.
  • Write testable control statements, policies, and procedures for priority domains.
