Course Overview

The Mini Master in Banking Management Training Course is an intensive, banking-specific program for high-potential bankers who are moving from specialist or branch roles into management and need to see the whole bank as one business. It is a short professional program, not an academic degree: in one week it condenses the core management disciplines of a bank into five connected modules, showing how strategy, the balance sheet, risk and capital, customers and technology, and leadership interact in the decisions a bank manager makes every day. Each day covers one module at a management level. Participants start with bank strategy and business models, examining how banks create value and how the operating environment shapes strategy. They then read the balance sheet through asset and liability management, net interest margin, funds transfer pricing, and the profitability of business lines, products, and customers. The third module explains credit risk, expected credit losses under IFRS 9, and capital and liquidity under the Basel III framework, including risk appetite, stress testing, and risk-adjusted return. The fourth module addresses digital banking, customer experience, operational efficiency, and the compliance and cyber risks that come with digital channels, while the fifth focuses on bank governance, leadership, culture, and ethical decision-making. Unlike the separate courses on commercial banking strategy, banking risk management, financial markets, or treasury, this program does not go deep into any single discipline; it connects them into one integrated management view. The course is delivered through concept sessions, bank financial statement exercises, case studies, and an integrated bank case on the final day, in which teams analyze a bank, make linked strategic, financial, and risk decisions, and present a management plan. Participants leave with a practical framework for leading a bank unit with a full understanding of its commercial, financial, and regulatory consequences.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain how a bank creates value through its business model, funding structure, and income sources by the end of the course.
  • Analyze the bank's operating environment, including macroeconomic, regulatory, competitive, and technology drivers of strategy.
  • Interpret bank financial statements and key ratios to assess performance, efficiency, and balance-sheet strength.
  • Apply asset and liability management principles to understand interest rate and liquidity positions.
  • Evaluate business-line, product, and customer profitability using funds transfer pricing and cost allocation.
  • Assess how credit growth, asset quality, and expected credit losses affect earnings and capital.
  • Explain Basel III capital and liquidity requirements and their impact on lending and pricing decisions.
  • Evaluate digital banking, customer experience, and efficiency initiatives against their risks and returns.
  • Strengthen governance, leadership, and ethical decision-making skills required of new bank managers.
  • Integrate strategic, financial, risk, and customer considerations into one coherent management plan for a bank unit.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for high-potential bankers moving into management, newly appointed branch and area managers, relationship and product managers, credit, risk, finance, and operations specialists taking on wider responsibilities, heads of units and department managers, and banking professionals in succession or leadership development programs who need an integrated view of how a bank is run. It is particularly valuable for professionals in commercial, retail, and Islamic banks, development and specialized banks, central banks and banking supervisors, and other financial institutions across the Gulf and Africa. Those who benefit most are specialists who know one area of the bank well and now need to manage across strategy, finance, risk, customers, and people.
