Course Overview

This advanced training course provides a practical framework for establishing, managing, and continuously improving quality management systems within medical laboratories. It focuses on ensuring the accuracy, reliability, timeliness, and traceability of laboratory results while strengthening patient safety and operational performance. The programme covers the complete laboratory testing pathway, from pre-analytical activities and specimen collection through analytical processes, result validation, reporting, and post-analytical follow-up. Participants examine how quality controls, standard operating procedures, equipment management, staff competency, documentation, and risk controls contribute to reliable laboratory services. Particular attention is given to quality indicators, internal quality control, external quality assessment, proficiency testing, nonconformity management, corrective and preventive actions, root cause analysis, document control, and laboratory risk management. The course also addresses audit readiness and the practical application of internationally recognised laboratory quality principles. Through case studies, quality data analysis, audit exercises, process reviews, and laboratory-based scenarios, participants develop the capability to identify quality gaps, investigate failures, strengthen controls, and establish sustainable laboratory quality improvement programmes.
