Course Overview

The Media Monitoring & Analysis Training Course equips public relations and communications professionals, media and social media analysts, government communication staff, and reputation and insight specialists with the knowledge and practical skills needed to monitor traditional and digital media systematically, analyze coverage and conversation, and turn media insight into actionable intelligence that supports communication strategy, reputation management, and decision making. Organizations are discussed constantly across news, social media, and online channels, and without structured monitoring and analysis they miss emerging issues, cannot measure the impact of their communication, and react late to risks and opportunities. In government entities, ministries, public authorities, banks, and corporations, effective media monitoring and analysis protects reputation, informs strategy, and demonstrates the value of communication, while its absence leaves organizations blind to how they are perceived. The course covers media monitoring and analysis from setup to insight and reporting. Participants learn the role and value of media monitoring and analysis, the media landscape across traditional, online, and social media, and defining monitoring objectives and what to monitor, including the organization, competitors, issues, and keywords. The program then addresses setting up monitoring, sources, and tools, capturing and organizing coverage, and the fundamentals of media analysis, including volume, reach, share of voice, sentiment, tone, message penetration, and spokesperson and theme analysis. Participants cover social media monitoring and listening, identifying influencers and trends, issues and crisis detection and early warning, and distinguishing signal from noise. Participants also examine turning data into insight and narrative, media and communication measurement and evaluation frameworks, linking monitoring to PR objectives and outcomes, reporting and dashboards for management, data quality, ethics, and privacy in monitoring, and the use of AI and analytics tools in modern media monitoring, with practice throughout. The course is delivered through monitoring setup exercises, coverage and sentiment analysis practice, dashboard and report building, and case studies. Participants leave with a media monitoring plan template, a media analysis and metrics guide, a sentiment and share-of-voice framework, a monitoring dashboard and report template, and an insight-to-action worksheet.
