Course Overview

Marine engineering plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of commercial vessels, offshore support ships, and other marine assets. Effective machinery maintenance helps prevent equipment failures, reduce unplanned downtime, improve fuel efficiency, and maintain compliance with applicable maritime safety and environmental requirements. This course provides practical knowledge of marine propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, engine room operations, and shipboard maintenance practices. Participants will examine the operating principles and maintenance requirements of marine diesel engines, propulsion equipment, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, cooling and lubrication systems, fuel systems, and electrical and control components. The programme also covers preventive and condition-based maintenance, machinery diagnostics, fault analysis, and maintenance planning. Through practical exercises and representative shipboard scenarios, participants will develop the skills required to inspect machinery, identify developing faults, evaluate equipment performance, and implement effective maintenance procedures. The course emphasizes operational reliability, equipment integrity, safe maintenance practices, and systematic troubleshooting to support efficient vessel operations and extend the service life of critical marine machinery.
