Course Overview

The Managing AI & Digital Transformation Projects Training Course equips project and program managers, PMO professionals, product owners, and digital leaders with the practical knowledge and methods needed to plan, deliver, and scale artificial intelligence and digital transformation initiatives that create measurable value. In government entities, ministries, public authorities, banks, healthcare systems, energy and utility companies, telecommunications, manufacturing, and service organizations, and large corporations, investment in digital platforms, automation, data, and AI is accelerating. These initiatives differ from traditional projects in important ways: they depend heavily on data, involve experimentation and uncertainty, require close collaboration between business and technical teams, and succeed only when users and processes change. Many AI and digital initiatives fail to move beyond pilots or deliver the expected benefits. Use cases may be selected because the technology is attractive rather than because they address a clear business problem, data may be unavailable, poor in quality, or restricted, and projects may be managed with rigid plans that do not accommodate experimentation. Integration with legacy systems may be underestimated, vendor dependencies may be poorly managed, and risks related to privacy, security, bias, explainability, and regulatory compliance may be addressed too late. Even when solutions work technically, adoption may be low because processes, roles, and skills were not adapted. Models may also degrade after deployment without monitoring and clear ownership. This course provides a structured and practical approach to managing AI and digital transformation projects. Participants learn the characteristics of digital and AI initiatives, how they differ from traditional projects, and how to link them to organizational strategy and value. The program covers identifying and prioritizing use cases, developing business cases and value hypotheses, assessing data readiness, and selecting predictive, agile, or hybrid delivery approaches suited to different stages, from discovery and proof of concept through pilots, scaling, and operation. Participants then learn how to structure multidisciplinary teams, manage requirements and product backlogs, plan experimentation and iterative delivery, manage vendors and technology partners, and address architecture, integration, and legacy system challenges. The course also addresses testing and validation of AI solutions, deployment and operational handover, model monitoring and lifecycle management, AI and digital risks including privacy, cybersecurity, bias, explainability, and compliance with national data protection regulations, responsible AI governance informed by emerging international standards, change management and user adoption, workforce and skills implications, measuring benefits and performance, and scaling successful solutions across the organization. The course is delivered through an interactive, application-focused approach with case studies of successful and unsuccessful initiatives, use case prioritization workshops, data readiness assessments, delivery planning exercises, and the development of a delivery plan for a realistic AI or digital initiative. Participants leave with a use case prioritization matrix, a digital and AI business case template, a data readiness checklist, a delivery approach selection guide, an AI risk and responsible use checklist, an adoption and change plan outline, and a pilot-to-scale roadmap.

Learning Objectives

  • Analyze the characteristics of AI and digital transformation initiatives and how they differ from traditional projects on Day 1.
  • Link AI and digital initiatives to organizational strategy, service outcomes, and measurable value.
  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize AI and digital use cases based on value, feasibility, data availability, risk, and readiness.
  • Develop business cases and value hypotheses that define expected benefits, costs, assumptions, and success measures.
  • Assess data readiness, including availability, quality, access, ownership, privacy, and governance.
  • Select and tailor predictive, agile, and hybrid delivery approaches for discovery, proof of concept, pilot, scaling, and operation stages.
  • Structure multidisciplinary teams and define roles for business owners, product owners, data scientists, engineers, and project managers.
  • Manage requirements, product backlogs, experimentation, and iterative delivery while maintaining governance and control.
  • Manage vendors, technology partners, architecture, integration, and legacy system challenges.
  • Apply testing, validation, deployment, operational handover, and model monitoring practices for AI and digital solutions.
  • Assess and manage AI and digital risks, including privacy, cybersecurity, bias, explainability, and regulatory compliance, within a responsible AI governance framework.
  • Develop adoption, change management, benefits measurement, and pilot-to-scale plans for AI and digital initiatives by the end of Day 5.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for project and program managers, PMO heads and analysts, product owners and product managers, and digital transformation leaders responsible for delivering AI, automation, data, and digital initiatives. It is also highly relevant for IT and enterprise architecture managers, data and analytics leaders, business analysts, and business unit managers who sponsor or participate in digital projects. It is particularly valuable for professionals in ministries, government entities, and public authorities delivering digital government services, smart city initiatives, and AI programs; in banks and financial institutions implementing digital channels, automation, and AI-based services; in healthcare systems implementing digital health and clinical systems; and in energy, utilities, telecommunications, manufacturing, logistics, and service organizations pursuing digital operations and intelligent automation. Senior executives, sponsors, and steering committee members overseeing digital and AI portfolios, as well as risk, compliance, and data protection professionals involved in these initiatives, will also benefit from the course.

Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Explain why AI and digital initiatives require adapted project management approaches.
  • Connect digital and AI initiatives clearly to strategic objectives and value.
  • Select and prioritize use cases that are valuable, feasible, and ready for delivery.
  • Build business cases that set realistic expectations and measurable success criteria.
  • Assess whether the data needed for an initiative is available, reliable, and usable.
  • Choose the right delivery approach for each stage of an initiative.
  • Organize and lead multidisciplinary digital and AI teams effectively.
  • Manage experimentation and iterative delivery within an appropriate governance framework.
  • Manage vendors, integration, and legacy system dependencies.
  • Plan testing, deployment, handover, and ongoing monitoring of AI solutions.
  • Identify and manage privacy, security, bias, and compliance risks responsibly.
  • Drive user adoption, measure benefits, and scale successful solutions.
