Course Overview

The Logistics Management Training Course equips professionals with the knowledge and practical tools needed to plan, manage, and improve the flow of goods, materials, and information from suppliers to end users in a way that is reliable, cost-effective, and responsive. In government entities, ministries, banks, healthcare organizations, manufacturing, retail, and distribution companies, and large corporations, logistics performance directly affects service levels, operating costs, customer and citizen satisfaction, and the organization's ability to respond to disruptions. Well-managed logistics turns supply into timely delivery; poorly managed logistics creates delays, excess cost, and lost trust. Many organizations manage logistics as a set of separate activities, such as purchasing transport, running warehouses, and clearing shipments, without an integrated view of total cost and service. Transport decisions may focus on the lowest freight rate rather than total landed cost, carriers and logistics providers may be managed without clear service level agreements, international shipments may be delayed by documentation and customs issues, and visibility over goods in transit may be limited. Logistics costs may be scattered across budgets and never analyzed as a whole, and performance may not be measured consistently. This course provides an integrated, practical approach to logistics management. Participants learn the role of logistics within the supply chain, the relationship between customer service requirements and logistics design, and the principles of total cost analysis. The program covers logistics network design and facility location, transportation management including mode selection, carrier selection and management, freight cost analysis, route and load planning, and transport management systems. It also addresses international logistics, including Incoterms 2020, customs procedures, trade documentation, and working with freight forwarders and customs brokers, as well as order management, distribution, reverse logistics, outsourcing to third-party and fourth-party logistics providers, logistics contracts and service level agreements, logistics risk and resilience, sustainable logistics, logistics technology and visibility, and logistics performance measurement. The course is delivered through an interactive, application-focused approach with case studies, cost exercises, and group problem solving. Participants leave with a logistics cost analysis model, a transport mode and carrier selection framework, an Incoterms selection guide, a logistics provider evaluation checklist, a logistics risk assessment, a logistics KPI dashboard design, and an improvement plan for their organization.

Learning Objectives

  • Analyze the role of logistics in supply chain performance, service delivery, and cost management on Day 1.
  • Evaluate the participant's current logistics operations and identify priority gaps in cost, service, and control.
  • Apply total logistics cost analysis to assess trade-offs between transportation, warehousing, inventory, and service levels.
  • Evaluate logistics network design and facility location options based on service requirements, cost, and risk.
  • Assess transportation modes and select the most appropriate mode for different shipment characteristics.
  • Develop carrier selection and performance management approaches supported by clear service level agreements.
  • Analyze freight costs and apply route planning, load planning, and consolidation techniques to improve efficiency.
  • Apply Incoterms 2020 correctly to allocate costs, risks, and responsibilities in domestic and international shipments.
  • Implement effective practices for customs procedures, trade documentation, and working with freight forwarders and customs brokers.
  • Evaluate outsourcing options, including third-party and fourth-party logistics providers, and develop logistics contract and service level agreement requirements.
  • Assess logistics risks and develop resilience and contingency measures for critical flows.
  • Design a logistics KPI dashboard and improvement plan for the participant's organization by the end of Day 5.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for logistics managers, supply chain managers, transport and fleet managers, distribution managers, shipping and import-export coordinators, and warehouse and inventory managers responsible for planning and managing the movement of goods. It is also relevant for procurement professionals who manage logistics contracts and delivery terms, customer service and order management staff, and operations managers who depend on reliable inbound and outbound logistics. It is particularly valuable for professionals in ministries and government entities managing central supply, distribution to multiple sites, emergency logistics, and imports of equipment and materials; in healthcare organizations managing medical supplies and temperature-sensitive products; in banks and financial institutions managing distribution of supplies, equipment, and secure items to branches; and in manufacturing, retail, e-commerce, distribution, utilities, and service organizations managing inbound materials and outbound deliveries. Finance professionals analyzing logistics costs, contract managers, and senior managers responsible for supply chain strategy will also benefit from the course.

Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Explain how logistics decisions affect service levels, costs, and organizational performance.
  • Identify and analyze all components of total logistics cost.
  • Assess trade-offs between transport cost, inventory levels, and delivery performance.
  • Evaluate distribution network and facility location options using clear criteria.
  • Select appropriate transport modes and carriers for different types of shipments.
  • Analyze freight costs and identify opportunities for consolidation and route optimization.
  • Choose the most suitable Incoterms rule for a given transaction and explain its implications.
  • Prepare and review key trade and shipping documents and anticipate common customs issues.
  • Evaluate and manage logistics service providers using contracts, service level agreements, and performance reviews.
  • Plan and manage reverse logistics for returns, repairs, and disposal.
  • Identify logistics risks and prepare contingency plans for critical supply flows.
  • Monitor logistics performance using indicators such as on-time in-full delivery, transit time, logistics cost per unit, damage rate, and order cycle time.
