Course Overview

The Knowledge Management Training Course equips knowledge managers, HR and organizational development professionals, IT and information specialists, and leaders with the concepts, frameworks, and practical tools needed to capture, share, apply, and retain organizational knowledge so that it becomes a strategic asset driving performance, innovation, and resilience. Organizations hold enormous knowledge in their people, processes, documents, and systems, yet much of it is lost through staff turnover and retirement, trapped in silos, duplicated, or never reused. In government entities, ministries, public authorities, banks, healthcare systems, energy companies, and knowledge-intensive organizations, effective knowledge management improves decision making, reduces repeated mistakes, accelerates learning, preserves critical expertise, and supports digital transformation, while its absence leads to lost expertise, reinvented solutions, and slower performance. The course covers knowledge management from foundations to implementation. Participants learn the concepts and value of knowledge management, the distinction between data, information, knowledge, and wisdom, the difference between tacit and explicit knowledge, and knowledge management models, strategies, and the link to organizational strategy and culture. The program then addresses knowledge management processes, including knowledge identification, capture, organization, sharing, application, and creation, and the people, process, and technology enablers. Participants also examine knowledge capture and retention techniques, including expertise capture, knowledge retention for departing employees, lessons learned, and after-action reviews, communities of practice and collaboration, knowledge sharing culture and incentives, taxonomies, content and document management, and knowledge management systems, portals, and technologies, including the role of AI, search, and generative AI in knowledge management. The course further addresses measuring knowledge management, maturity and benefits, governance and roles, change management, and building a knowledge management strategy and roadmap, with links to innovation, learning, and succession. The course is delivered through practical exercises, knowledge capture and lessons learned sessions, strategy and community design workshops, and case studies. Participants leave with a knowledge management strategy framework, a knowledge capture and retention toolkit, a lessons learned and after-action review template, a community of practice design guide, and a knowledge management maturity and roadmap template.
