Course Overview

The IT Procurement & Vendor Management Training Course equips IT procurement specialists, category managers, IT managers, contract managers, and vendor management professionals with the knowledge and practical tools needed to buy technology effectively, negotiate sound contracts, manage technology vendors for performance and value, and control the commercial, legal, security, and compliance risks that are specific to IT. Technology purchasing in government entities, ministries, banks, energy and utility companies, healthcare systems, telecommunications providers, and corporations has shifted toward complex software licensing, cloud and software-as-a-service subscriptions, managed services, and multi-year outsourcing, often with significant lock-in, data protection, and cybersecurity implications. Procurement teams that apply generic purchasing approaches to IT frequently face unclear requirements, unfavorable license terms, hidden costs, audit exposure, weak service levels, and difficult exits. The course covers IT procurement and vendor management from strategy to contract exit. Participants learn the characteristics of IT categories, including hardware, software, cloud and software-as-a-service, IT services, managed services, telecommunications, and consulting, IT category strategies, collaboration between IT and procurement, and defining functional, technical, and security requirements. The program then addresses market analysis and sourcing approaches, preparing requests for information and proposals, evaluating offers using technical and commercial criteria, total cost of ownership, proofs of concept, and reference checks, software licensing models and negotiation, and key IT contract terms, including service levels, data protection and data residency, cybersecurity requirements, intellectual property, liability, escrow, price protection, audit rights, and exit and transition. Participants also examine vendor risk management, vendor performance management using scorecards and governance meetings, license compliance and software audits, cloud and outsourcing contract governance, public sector IT procurement requirements, local content, ethics, and procurement considerations for AI solutions. The course is delivered through IT procurement case studies, requirements and RFP drafting workshops, evaluation and negotiation simulations, contract clause reviews, and vendor performance exercises. Participants leave with an IT category strategy template, an IT requirements and RFP template, an IT bid evaluation and total cost of ownership model, an IT contract clause checklist, and a vendor performance scorecard and governance framework.
