Course Overview

The IT Governance & IT Strategy Training Course equips IT leaders, CIOs and their teams, enterprise architects, and business and governance professionals with the frameworks and practical tools needed to align technology with organizational strategy, govern IT investments and risks, and develop and execute an IT strategy that delivers measurable value. Government entities, ministries, banks, energy and utility companies, healthcare systems, telecommunications providers, and corporations depend on technology for service delivery, operations, and digital transformation, yet many struggle with fragmented IT investments, unclear decision rights, rising technology costs, cybersecurity and data risks, and weak links between IT initiatives and business outcomes. Boards and executives increasingly expect structured IT governance and a clear, business-driven IT strategy. The course covers IT governance and IT strategy from principles to implementation. Participants learn the distinction between governance and management of IT, the principles of ISO/IEC 38500, the COBIT governance system, its components and design factors, and the relationship with IT service management, enterprise architecture, information security, and project and portfolio management frameworks. The program then addresses IT governance structures, decision rights, and committees, board and executive oversight of technology, investment and portfolio governance, business cases and benefits realization, IT risk, cybersecurity, data, and AI governance, sourcing and vendor governance, and compliance with national regulatory requirements. Participants also learn how to develop an IT strategy, including business-IT alignment, current state assessment, target state definition, enterprise architecture, IT operating models, cloud and sourcing strategies, digital transformation priorities, IT financial management and cost transparency, IT performance measurement and balanced scorecards, capability and maturity assessment, and building and communicating an IT strategic roadmap. The course is delivered through case studies, governance design workshops, strategy development exercises, portfolio prioritization simulations, and maturity assessments. Participants leave with an IT governance framework and decision rights matrix, an IT steering committee charter template, an IT strategy development template, an IT portfolio prioritization model, and an IT performance scorecard and roadmap template. This course builds practical IT governance and strategy capability and is not an official COBIT or ISO certification program.
