Course Overview

The ISO 31000 Risk Management Training Course equips risk managers, executives, and professionals across functions with a practical understanding of ISO 31000, the international standard providing principles and guidelines for managing risk, and the skills to design, implement, and continually improve risk management that is integrated into governance, strategy, planning, operations, and decision making. Government entities, ministries, public authorities, banks, energy and utility companies, healthcare systems, and corporations face increasingly complex and interconnected risks, and regulators, boards, and stakeholders expect structured, transparent, and effective risk management. ISO 31000 is applicable to any organization and any type of risk, and it is widely used as the foundation for enterprise risk management frameworks, risk policies, and risk-based thinking in management systems. The course covers ISO 31000 from principles to practical application. Participants learn the purpose and scope of the standard, its key terms, and its principles, including integration, a structured and comprehensive approach, customization, inclusiveness, dynamism, use of the best available information, human and cultural factors, and continual improvement. The program then addresses the risk management framework, including leadership and commitment, integration, design, implementation, evaluation, and improvement, and the risk management process, including communication and consultation, establishing scope, context, and criteria, risk identification, analysis, and evaluation, risk treatment, monitoring and review, and recording and reporting. Participants also apply selected risk assessment techniques, design risk criteria, risk matrices, and risk appetite statements, develop risk registers and treatment plans, define key risk indicators, and examine how ISO 31000 relates to other risk management frameworks and to ISO management system standards, along with risk culture and maturity assessment. The course is delivered through case studies, risk workshops, risk assessment technique exercises, framework design exercises, and maturity assessment. Participants leave with a risk management policy and framework template, a risk criteria and risk matrix template, a risk register and treatment plan template, a key risk indicator template, and a risk management maturity self-assessment tool. This course builds practical knowledge of ISO 31000 and is not an official ISO certification; ISO 31000 provides guidelines and is not intended for organizational certification.
