Course Overview

Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) are essential quality assurance documents used to define inspection activities, testing requirements, acceptance criteria, responsibilities, and verification points throughout project execution. Effective ITP management helps organizations verify that materials, workmanship, equipment, and completed activities comply with contractual requirements, approved specifications, engineering standards, and applicable regulations. This course provides practical guidance on developing, reviewing, implementing, and controlling ITPs across engineering, construction, manufacturing, maintenance, and industrial projects. Participants examine inspection stages, hold points, witness points, review points, inspection methods, testing procedures, acceptance criteria, and documentation requirements. The course also addresses coordination between contractors, subcontractors, quality teams, clients, and third-party inspection agencies to ensure that inspections are properly planned, executed, witnessed, and documented. Through practical exercises and project-based scenarios, participants develop the skills to prepare risk-informed inspection plans, verify compliance requirements, manage inspection records, control nonconformities, and coordinate inspection activities with project schedules. The emphasis is on preventing defects, improving traceability, reducing rework, and ensuring that inspection and testing activities provide reliable evidence of conformity throughout the project lifecycle.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the purpose, structure, and contractual significance of Inspection and Test Plans.
  • Develop ITPs aligned with project specifications, engineering standards, and quality requirements.
  • Identify inspection stages, verification activities, and required documentation.
  • Define hold points, witness points, review points, and surveillance activities.
