Course Overview

This advanced practical course provides a structured framework for understanding industrial decarbonization technologies and developing practical pathways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across energy-intensive operations. It focuses on translating decarbonization objectives into technically viable solutions, investment priorities, implementation plans, and measurable emissions reductions. The programme examines major industrial decarbonization levers, including energy efficiency, electrification, renewable energy, fuel switching, process optimisation, low-carbon fuels, hydrogen, carbon capture, utilisation and storage, waste heat recovery, and emerging low-carbon technologies. Participants will evaluate how different technologies can be applied across industrial processes and operating environments. Particular emphasis is placed on technology selection and pathway development, considering emissions reduction potential, technical maturity, energy requirements, infrastructure dependencies, capital expenditure, operating costs, safety, reliability, and implementation risks. The course also addresses how industrial decarbonization initiatives can be integrated with asset management, capital planning, operational improvement, and long-term Net Zero strategies. Through practical exercises, participants will assess industrial emission sources, identify suitable technology options, compare decarbonization pathways, prioritise projects, and develop phased implementation roadmaps aligned with operational and commercial realities.
