Course Overview

Hypothesis testing and regression analysis are essential statistical methods for determining whether observed quality changes are meaningful, identifying factors that influence process performance, and validating improvement initiatives. These techniques enable quality professionals to move beyond assumptions and make decisions based on measurable evidence. This course develops practical skills in statistical hypothesis testing, comparison of process performance, correlation analysis, and regression modeling. Participants will learn how to formulate statistical hypotheses, select appropriate tests, interpret p-values and confidence intervals, assess relationships between variables, and evaluate the influence of process inputs on quality outcomes. The course also addresses common analytical errors, assumptions, and limitations that can affect the reliability of statistical conclusions. Through applied exercises, quality-related datasets, and realistic case studies, participants will practice evaluating process changes, investigating variation, identifying influential factors, and translating statistical findings into targeted improvement actions. The focus is on applying statistical evidence to reduce defects, improve consistency, validate corrective actions, and support continuous improvement programs.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the principles and applications of hypothesis testing and regression in quality improvement.
  • Formulate null and alternative hypotheses for practical quality problems.
  • Select appropriate statistical tests based on data type, sample characteristics, and analytical objectives.
