Course Overview

The Healthcare AI Validation & Regulatory Compliance Training Course is an advanced program for professionals who must prove that an AI system is safe, fair and lawful before it reaches patients and staff, and keep proving it after go-live. Rather than surveying AI use cases, it concentrates on regulator obligations, AI-as-medical-device classification, pre-deployment validation and bias testing, vendor due diligence, post-deployment monitoring and audit trails. Participants examine how health regulators, including the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) and the Abu Dhabi Department of Health, set expectations for health AI, and how international references such as the IMDRF Software as a Medical Device framework, Good Machine Learning Practice principles, the EU AI Act and ISO/IEC 42001 shape intended use, risk classification, documentation and change control. A central focus is building the evidence a governance committee needs: validation on local data, subgroup performance and bias analysis, calibration, human oversight design, and acceptance criteria agreed before go-live. The course also covers vendor due diligence, contract clauses, data protection obligations and the questions to put to suppliers about training data, performance claims and updates. Through case studies, document reviews, planning exercises and monitoring dashboards, participants learn to set up model inventories, drift and performance monitoring, incident reporting and periodic review cycles, producing a compliance file and assurance plan for the AI systems their organization uses or buys.

Learning Objectives

  • Interpret health regulator obligations for organizations developing, buying or using AI.
  • Determine when an AI tool is a medical device and how its risk class is assigned.
  • Define intended use, users and operating limits as the basis for validation.
  • Design pre-deployment validation plans with local data, acceptance criteria and decision rules.
  • Apply bias and fairness testing across patient subgroups, languages and care settings.
  • Assess explainability, human oversight and fallback arrangements for AI-supported decisions.
  • Conduct vendor due diligence on evidence, data handling, security and updates.
  • Build contract, data protection and accountability requirements into health AI procurement.
  • Establish post-deployment monitoring for performance, drift, safety signals and user overrides.
  • Maintain audit trails, model inventories and documentation that withstand regulatory inspection.
  • Manage model changes, retraining and AI incidents through controlled review and reporting.
  • Prepare an AI assurance and compliance plan for the organization's health AI portfolio.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for chief information officers, chief medical information officers, digital health directors, health informatics leads, quality and patient safety managers, risk and compliance officers, data protection officers, and clinical and data science leads who sit on AI review or governance committees. It is particularly relevant to hospitals, healthcare groups, primary care networks, health insurers, ministries of health, health regulators and authorities, and health-tech procurement teams that evaluate, purchase or supervise AI-enabled systems. Professionals who must approve AI tools before go-live, negotiate with AI vendors, prepare for regulatory inspections or run monitoring and audit programs will benefit most from the course.

Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Explain the obligations regulators set for developing, buying and using health AI.
  • Classify AI tools against medical device definitions and risk categories.
  • Draft intended use statements that define users, settings and operating limits.
  • Design validation studies with local data, sound metrics and agreed acceptance criteria.
  • Test AI performance for bias across relevant patient and population subgroups.
  • Evaluate human oversight, explainability and fallback arrangements before go-live.
  • Conduct vendor due diligence and build compliance requirements into contracts.
  • Set up monitoring for drift, performance decline, user overrides and safety signals.
  • Maintain audit trails, model inventories and version records ready for inspection.
  • Handle model changes and AI incidents through controlled review and reporting.
  • Prepare an AI assurance and compliance plan for the organization's health AI portfolio.
