Course Overview

This advanced training course provides a comprehensive and practical framework for the safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible management of hazardous waste. It addresses the complete hazardous waste lifecycle, from identification and classification at the point of generation through segregation, labeling, storage, handling, transportation, treatment, recovery, and final disposal. The program focuses on the operational and regulatory challenges associated with hazardous waste, including chemical, toxic, flammable, corrosive, reactive, and other hazardous materials. Participants will examine methods for identifying hazardous waste characteristics, assessing associated risks, selecting appropriate control measures, and establishing safe procedures that protect personnel, facilities, communities, and the environment. The course also covers hazardous waste compliance requirements, permitting, documentation, manifests and tracking systems, contractor management, emergency preparedness, spill response, inspections, and environmental auditing. Particular attention is given to preventing improper handling, uncontrolled releases, cross-contamination, and non-compliance throughout the waste management process. Through practical case studies, risk assessment exercises, and scenario-based workshops, participants will develop the ability to establish effective hazardous waste management systems, improve operational controls, evaluate disposal and treatment options, manage hazardous waste contractors, and strengthen environmental compliance and organizational risk management.

Learning Objectives

  • By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Understand the principles and requirements of hazardous waste management.
  • Identify and classify hazardous waste according to its physical, chemical, and environmental characteristics.
  • Assess hazards and risks associated with hazardous waste generation and handling.
  • Establish effective procedures for segregation, labeling, packaging, and storage.
  • Apply safe hazardous waste handling and transfer practices.
  • Evaluate transportation requirements and controls for hazardous waste.
  • Assess appropriate treatment, recovery, recycling, and disposal methods.
  • Establish hazardous waste tracking, documentation, and recordkeeping systems.
  • Develop effective controls for spills, leaks, exposure, and accidental releases.
  • Evaluate hazardous waste contractors and service providers.
  • Conduct hazardous waste inspections and compliance audits.
  • Develop improvement plans that strengthen safety, environmental performance, and regulatory compliance.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for Environmental Professionals, HSE and EHS Professionals, Hazardous Waste Specialists, Environmental Compliance Officers, Waste Management Professionals, Facility Managers, Operations Managers, Engineers, Supervisors, and personnel responsible for hazardous materials and waste management.
