The Government Sustainability & ESG Management Training Course equips strategy, finance, procurement and sustainability teams in ministries, authorities and municipalities to manage the sustainability performance of their own entity. Rather than national development policy or corporate board oversight, the course focuses on how a public body runs greener operations, budgets and buys sustainably, integrates environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into public financial management, and reports credibly on results.
Governments are increasingly expected to lead by example. National sustainable finance frameworks issued by ministries of finance, net-zero commitments and growing public scrutiny now ask entities to show how ESG principles shape their budgets, procurement, treasury, asset management and annual reporting. Many entities, however, lack reliable footprint data, clear responsibilities and practical tools to turn commitments into daily decisions.
The program covers entity-level sustainability governance and materiality, greenhouse gas inventories under the GHG Protocol, resource management in public buildings and fleets, management systems aligned with ISO 14001 and ISO 50001, green budgeting and climate budget tagging, ESG in capital investment appraisal, treasury and asset management, sustainable public procurement guided by ISO 20400, and sustainability reporting with reference to IPSASB public sector guidance, the ISSB standards IFRS S1 and IFRS S2, and the GRI Standards.
Learning combines government case studies with footprint, budget tagging, tender redesign and reporting exercises. Participants leave with a sustainability governance charter, an emissions inventory template, a budget tagging worksheet, sustainable procurement criteria and an entity ESG roadmap.
