The FIDIC 2017 Red Book for Employers & Contractors Training Course equips employer representatives, contract managers, commercial managers, and contractors' project teams with a working, clause-level understanding of the second edition of the Conditions of Contract for Construction, the form used where the employer provides the design and the works are paid by measurement. Unlike a general introduction to the FIDIC suite, this course goes deep into one book and one edition, and it reads that edition from both sides of the contract, so that each party understands what it must do, what the other party can require, and where value is lost through missed procedure on infrastructure, building, and public works projects across the Gulf and Africa. The 2017 edition is longer and far more procedural than its predecessor, and teams that manage it by habit soon run into trouble. Participants work through the main obligations of the Employer, the Engineer, and the Contractor; the Employer's financial arrangements; the program and its revision; advance warning; quality management and compliance verification; variations and value engineering; measurement and valuation; and the treatment of Exceptional Events. The course pays particular attention to the formal notice regime, which separates notices from ordinary communications and attaches consequences to form, addressee, and timing. Claims and disputes receive detailed treatment. Participants study the single claims procedure that now applies equally to the Employer and the Contractor, time bars and the limited relief from them, the Engineer's neutral determination and its consultation phase, the Notice of Dissatisfaction, the standing Dispute Avoidance/Adjudication Board, and the route to amicable settlement and arbitration. The course also addresses how Particular Conditions commonly change this balance, how FIDIC's Golden Principles help to test those changes, and how the governing law may affect termination, delay damages, and limits of liability. The course is delivered through clause-based case studies, notice drafting exercises, claim and determination role plays, program and payment scenarios, and a final workshop on a realistic project dispute. Participants leave with a contract obligations matrix, a notice and time bar register, template notices, a claim submission structure, and a Red Book contract management plan they can adapt to their own projects.
