Course Overview

The ERP Systems for Procurement & Supply Chain (SAP/Oracle) Training Course equips procurement, supply chain, inventory, and finance professionals with a clear, practical understanding of how enterprise resource planning systems support end-to-end procurement and supply chain processes. In government entities, ministries, banks, oil and gas companies, and large corporations, ERP platforms such as SAP and Oracle are the backbone of purchasing, materials management, inventory control, supplier management, and financial integration. How well these systems are understood and used has a direct effect on process efficiency, internal control, data accuracy, compliance, and the quality of management information. Many organizations invest heavily in ERP systems but do not realize their full value. Users may know how to complete individual transactions without understanding the end-to-end process and its impact on other departments. Master data may be inconsistent, workarounds may be common, approval workflows may be bypassed, three-way matching exceptions may accumulate, and valuable reports may be underused. After implementation, organizations often lack the internal capability to optimize processes, strengthen controls, and continuously improve system use. This course takes a process-focused, vendor-neutral approach, using concepts and terminology applicable to leading ERP platforms including SAP and Oracle. It is designed to build practical process and system understanding and is not an official vendor certification program. Participants learn ERP architecture and integration, organizational structures, and the critical role of master data for materials, suppliers, and pricing. The program walks through the complete procure-to-pay cycle, from purchase requisitions, sourcing, and purchase orders to goods receipt, invoice verification, and payment, as well as contracts, outline agreements, inventory management, material requirements planning, warehouse and logistics processes, workflows and approvals, segregation of duties and internal controls, reporting and analytics, and ERP improvement and user adoption. Throughout the five days, participants work through process walkthroughs, case studies, and demonstrations based on realistic procurement and supply chain scenarios. They leave with an end-to-end procure-to-pay process map, a master data quality checklist, a controls and segregation of duties review, a procurement and inventory KPI report design, and an ERP optimization plan for their organization.

Learning Objectives

  • Analyze the role of ERP systems in integrating procurement, supply chain, inventory, and finance processes on Day 1.
  • Assess the participant's current use of ERP for procurement and supply chain and identify gaps, workarounds, and improvement priorities.
  • Apply knowledge of ERP organizational structures, such as company codes, plants, storage locations, and purchasing organizations, to understand process flows and controls.
  • Evaluate the quality and governance of master data, including material, supplier, and pricing records, and their impact on process performance.
  • Implement the end-to-end procure-to-pay process in ERP, covering purchase requisitions, sourcing, purchase orders, goods receipt, invoice verification, and payment.
  • Apply ERP functionality for contracts, outline agreements, and scheduling agreements to improve compliance and efficiency.
  • Analyze inventory management processes, including goods movements, stock types, physical inventory, and valuation.
  • Assess the principles of material requirements planning and reorder point planning within ERP.
  • Evaluate approval workflows, segregation of duties, three-way matching, and other internal controls embedded in ERP processes.
  • Develop procurement and inventory reports and KPIs using ERP data to support monitoring and decision making.
  • Strengthen user adoption and process discipline through clear procedures, training, and support.
  • Design an ERP optimization plan for procurement and supply chain processes in the participant's organization by the end of Day 5.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for procurement managers, buyers, purchasing officers, contracts administrators, supply chain and materials managers, inventory controllers, warehouse supervisors, and logistics professionals who use ERP systems in their daily work or oversee processes that run through them. It is also highly relevant for ERP key users, process owners, business analysts, and procurement and supply chain systems specialists responsible for configuration requests, process improvement, and user support. It is particularly valuable for professionals in ministries and government entities using ERP platforms to manage government purchasing, budgets, commitments, and inventory under public financial management and procurement regulations; in banks and financial institutions managing indirect procurement, vendor payments, and asset-related purchasing within strong control environments; and in oil and gas and industrial organizations managing large volumes of materials, spare parts, service contracts, warehouses, and maintenance-related purchasing. Accounts payable, finance, internal audit, and compliance professionals who work with procurement data and controls, as well as ERP project team members preparing for implementation or upgrade, will also benefit from the course.

Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Explain how ERP integrates procurement, inventory, logistics, and finance and how one department's transactions affect others.
  • Describe the main ERP organizational structures and their role in procurement and supply chain processes.
  • Identify master data quality issues and recommend governance practices to prevent them.
  • Follow and explain each step of the procure-to-pay cycle and the documents generated at each stage.
  • Use contracts and outline agreements effectively to control prices and improve purchasing efficiency.
  • Explain inventory movements, stock types, and physical inventory processes and their financial impact.
  • Understand how material requirements planning and reorder point planning generate replenishment proposals.
  • Identify control weaknesses, such as segregation of duties conflicts, bypassed approvals, and unresolved matching exceptions.
  • Use ERP data to produce meaningful procurement and inventory reports and KPIs.
  • Recognize common workarounds and their risks and propose process improvements.
  • Support users with clear procedures and training to improve process discipline.
  • Present an ERP optimization plan for procurement and supply chain in their organization.
