Course Overview

An effective Emergency Response Team (ERT) is essential for protecting personnel, assets, and business continuity during fires, chemical releases, medical emergencies, equipment failures, and other critical incidents. Organisations need trained response personnel who can recognise hazards, act decisively, coordinate emergency activities, and minimise the consequences of unexpected events. This course develops the operational knowledge and practical skills required to perform emergency response duties within industrial facilities, commercial premises, infrastructure projects, and other high-risk environments. It covers emergency procedures, incident assessment, alarm activation, evacuation, firefighting fundamentals, casualty assistance, hazardous material awareness, communication protocols, and coordination with external emergency services. Through practical exercises, scenario-based simulations, and team coordination drills, participants will strengthen their ability to respond under pressure, follow established emergency plans, and operate effectively within an incident command structure. The programme also addresses emergency equipment readiness, post-incident reporting, and continuous improvement to enhance organisational preparedness and response performance.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify common workplace emergencies and assess associated hazards.
  • Apply emergency response procedures in accordance with organisational plans.
  • Activate alarms, communicate incidents, and initiate appropriate response actions.
  • Perform safe evacuation, personnel accountability, and emergency assembly procedures.
  • Apply basic firefighting principles and select appropriate extinguishing equipment within the limits of training.
  • Understand initial response measures for chemical releases and hazardous materials.
  • Apply basic first-response principles while awaiting qualified medical assistance.
  • Coordinate response activities through clear communication and defined team responsibilities.
  • Participate effectively in emergency drills and incident command arrangements.
  • Evaluate response performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
