The Dry Ports, Hinterland & Multimodal Corridor Management Training Course equips transport planners, port and logistics managers, and government officials with the knowledge needed to plan, govern, and improve the inland side of the port system. A seaport performs only as well as the road, rail, and inland waterway links behind it. Across Africa and the Gulf, landlocked countries, long transit routes, new rail projects, and growing logistics zones have made hinterland connectivity a central concern for ministries, port authorities, and investors alike. The course focuses on the corridors of Africa and the Gulf and on the management decisions that make them work. Participants examine how dry ports and inland container depots relieve congested seaports and bring customs and logistics services closer to shippers, how to assess demand and location, and how modal shift from road to rail can be justified. They study corridors such as the Northern and Central Corridors of East Africa, the Walvis Bay and Maputo corridors of Southern Africa, the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor of West Africa, and the emerging rail and land bridge links of the Gulf as comparative examples of design and governance. Participants work with the frameworks that shape corridor practice, including the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement, the Revised Kyoto Convention, the TIR Convention, the Intergovernmental Agreement on Dry Ports developed under UNESCAP for Asia as a comparative reference, the African Continental Free Trade Area, and the UNCTAD/ICC Rules for Multimodal Transport Documents. Transit regimes, one-stop border posts, single window links, multimodal liability, corridor management institutions, public-private partnership structures, tariff setting, and performance measurement complete the scope. The focus stays on management and governance, not on customs brokerage or operating skills. The course is delivered through corridor case studies, demand and location exercises, time-cost-distance mapping, governance role plays, and a final corridor strategy workshop. Participants leave with a dry port feasibility framework, a bottleneck map, a corridor governance model, a set of performance indicators, and a corridor improvement plan they can adapt to their own context.
