Course Overview

The Data Management Body of Knowledge (DAMA-DMBOK) Training Course equips data management professionals, data governance and quality specialists, data architects, analysts, and IT and business professionals with a structured understanding of the data management discipline as defined by the DAMA Data Management Body of Knowledge (DMBOK). As organizations become data-driven, managing data as a strategic asset is essential to analytics, digital transformation, AI, regulatory compliance, and trusted decision making. The DMBOK provides a comprehensive, vendor-neutral framework covering the knowledge areas of data management, their goals, principles, activities, and deliverables, and a common language that helps organizations build mature, coordinated data management capabilities rather than fragmented, siloed efforts. The course covers the DMBOK framework comprehensively and practically. Participants learn the importance of data management, the DMBOK framework and its guiding principles, and data governance as the core that coordinates the other knowledge areas, including governance structures, policies, roles such as data owners and stewards, and operating models. The program then addresses the main knowledge areas: data architecture; data modelling and design; data storage and operations; data security; data integration and interoperability; and document and content management. Participants also cover reference and master data management, data warehousing and business intelligence, metadata management, and data quality management, along with cross-cutting themes such as the data management lifecycle, data ethics, big data and data science, data management maturity assessment, building a data strategy and roadmap, and the organizational and change aspects of establishing effective data management. Links to data privacy, analytics, and AI governance are highlighted throughout. The course is delivered through framework walkthroughs, data governance and quality exercises, maturity assessment, and data strategy workshops. Participants leave with a DMBOK knowledge areas reference, a data governance framework template, a data quality assessment guide, a data management maturity assessment tool, and a data strategy and roadmap template. This course builds practical understanding of the DMBOK framework and is not an official DAMA certification program; it supports preparation for professional data management certification alongside further study.
