Goes deep into the 2017 Red Book edition, not the wider FIDIC suite: employer and contractor duties, notices, claims, determinations and the standing DAAB.
5 Days·Classroom
Focuses on the cost and proof of construction variations: valuing changes, building rates, and substantiating every sum, not general contract performance.

The Construction Variations & Cost Substantiation Training Course equips quantity surveyors, cost engineers, commercial managers, and contract administrators with the practical skills needed to price a construction variation accurately, prove what it really cost, and review such pricing fairly. On building, infrastructure, and energy projects across the Gulf and Africa, design development, employer changes, and site conditions generate large numbers of variations, and many remain unagreed for months because the entitlement is accepted while the cost is not. The result is strained cash flow for contractors, uncertain budgets for employers, and final accounts that stay open long after the work is complete. Rather than covering contract performance, claims, and change control in general terms, this course focuses on cost and proof: how the value of a change is established, which documents support it, and how a reviewer verifies it. Participants start from the contractual route, including instructions, change proposals, and the FIDIC 1999 and 2017 provisions on variations and valuation, and then move quickly to the numbers. They apply the order of valuation methods, from bill of quantities rates and pro-rata rates to new rates built from first principles, with daywork where the contract provides for it. Participants learn to build a rate from labor, plant, material, subcontract, overhead, and profit, and to support each element with payroll data, plant records, purchase orders, invoices, and subcontract accounts. The course covers the cost that is often missed or overstated: omissions and lost profit, time-related preliminaries, wastage, productivity effects, and the cumulative impact of many small changes on the unchanged work. Participants also practice open-book review and cost audit, test subcontractor quotations, spot double recovery between variations and claims, and bring agreed values into interim payments and the final account. The course is delivered through project case studies, rate build-up exercises, record review, mock negotiations, and a final variation substantiation workshop. Participants leave with a variation register, a rate build-up template, a substantiation checklist, a review and audit guide, and a complete variation pricing file they can adapt to their own projects.

5 Days·Classroom
Focuses on how FIDIC Yellow and Silver Books allocate design-build and EPC risk: employer's requirements, fitness for purpose, ground risk, tests, lump sum.
5 Days·Classroom
Focuses on moving between the 1999 and 2017 FIDIC editions, since 1999 remains common: clause changes, transition risk and drafting Particular Conditions.
